ON THE BUBBLE

WOODBURY ROYALS
After a 18-13 slobberknocker of a win over Roseville to open section play, the Royals will move on to face East Ridge on Wednesday.

ST. THOMAS ACADEMY CADETS
The Cadets were the Metro East champions and have started hot in section play. They get Two Rivers on Thursday.

STILLWATER PONIES
The defending state champions began section play with a loss to White Bear Lake. They will face St. Paul Central on Wednesday in hopes of keeping their title defense alive.

NEW PRAGUE TROJANS
The Metro West Conference champions are a 3A force and will be looking to come out of a tough Section 2AAA.

HASTINGS RAIDERS
The Raiders finished second in the Metro East behind St. Thomas Academy and earned the third seed in Section 3AAAA. After beating Park of Cottage Grove, Hastings will face Eagan in the second round.

ESKO ESKIMOS
The Eskimos finally lost a game this year to Wadena-Deer River. They started Section 7AA play with an emphatic win over Two Harbors 12-1.

ELK RIVER ELKS
The Elks finished second in a tough Northwest Suburban Conference. They’ll face St. Cloud on Wednesday as the no. 2 seed in Section 8AAAA.

EDINA HORNETS
The Hornets finished fourth in the Lake Conference and stumbled a bit heading into section play. Still, Section 6AAAA feels wide open. Edina put away Minneapolis Washburn in the opener and will face Minneapolis Southwest next.

ANDOVER HUSKIES
The Huskies rattled off seven straight wins to end the year. They are the no. 2 seed in Section 7AAAA and will see Coon Rapids on Wednesday.

10 // ROSEMOUNT IRISH (NR)

The Irish end up as co-champions of the South Suburban, sharing the title with Lakeville South. The senior-led Rosemount team heads into section play as the no. 1 seed in Section 3AAAA. A tidy 6-1 victory over Apple Valley has them moving on to face Lakeville North later this week. For more on the Irish program, check out this week’s Ducks On The Pond podcast.

9 // ANOKA TORNADOES (9) ?

Anoka finishes the regular season third in the Northwest Suburban, behind Champlin Park and Elk River. The Tornadoes earned the no. 1 seed in Section 7AAAA and will see Cambridge-Isanti in the first round on Wednesday.

8 // BEMIDJI LUMBERJACKS (10) ?

The Lumberjacks finished the year 14-5 and earned the no. 1 seed in Section 8AAAA.

7 // ROCHESTER MAYO SPARTANS (6) ?

At 13-3, Rochester Mayo tied with Northfield in the Big 9. The Spartans snuck past crosstown rival John Marshall in the first round of sections and will see Owatonna on Wednesday night.

6 // MINNETONKA SKIPPERS (4) ?

Minnetonka winds up second in the Lake behind front-runner Wayzata. The Skippers have proven to be a scrappy team with a bevy of arms. After squeaking out a walk-off win in round one versus Bloomington Jefferson, Tonka will tangle with Prior Lake on Wednesday.

5 // EAST RIDGE RAPTORS (3) ?

East Ridge started the year atop the rankings and has ebbed and flowed. They finished with a 13-7 record and second in the Suburban East behind Cretin. Still, with the amount of talent on the roster you know no one wants to play the Raptors when they get rolling.

4 // CHAMPLIN PARK REBELS (7) ?

Champlin Park finished 10-2 in Northwest Suburban Conference play to secure the title. The Rebels have rattled off 10 straight victories, including their first round section win over Irondale.

3 // CHANHASSEN STORM (5) ?

The Storm rolled through their last three regular season games, including a win against 3rd ranked Minnetonka. Last year’s third place finisher in 4A is looking tough.

2 // WAYZATA TROJANS (2) ?

The Trojans finished the year 15-5 and claimed the Lake Conference title. They’ve got the pitching depth to make a run through their section.

1 // CRETIN-DERHAM HALL RAIDERS (1) ?

The Raiders finish the year at 17-4 and are firmly in the driver’s seat as the team to beat in state.
