Our staff is working to become the #1 news source for Prep Baseball across the state of Texas. Remember to follow us on twitter (@PBR_Texas) and reach out to us with any news, commitments, or your upcoming workout and game schedule. We are hosting four EVENTS this winter to allow players the opportunity to be evaluated by our staff with video, scouting reports and verified statistics.
Since the launch of Prep Baseball Report Texas, our staff has been all over the state covering games and evaluating players. We recently released our first ranking with the 2018 class. This week we will be releasing our coverage of the 2019 class. Here are the top committed sophomores from the fall.
TOP 2019 COMMITTED PLAYERS
Bobby Witt Jr., SS, Colleyville Heritage HS
Oklahoma recruit. 6-foot, 165-pound frame. Witt utilizes a reverse toe-tap and lightning-quick hands to punish baseballs including a key leadoff triple late in a 0-0 game that led to him scoring to take the lead in a playoff victory. On Sunday, he smashed a home run to left field off the scoreboard, then squarely hit a sharp one-hopper through the infield on a curveball he was initially fooled on, running a 4.32 home-to-first on the turn. Witt bounces around the infield with a strong arm and great hands, making every play, and even showing off Jeter-esq jump-throw to the backhand side to nail a runner at first base. Witt is already on scout's radars, and is nearly a household name only a couple months into his sophomore year.
Sansone "Sammy" Faltine III, SS/RHP, Ft. Bend Travis HS
Texas commit. 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame. Athletic lean build. Works from a high-¾ slot with clean arm action and athletic delivery. His fastball ranged from 84-86 mph in one inning of work. Threw his slider at 74 mph with good downward action. At shortstop he showed fluid advanced actions for his age with good carry in the arm. Offensively he works from a balanced stance with fluid rhythm, good hand path with pop in the bat. He ran a 6.67 60-yard dash. All around high-level prospect.
Austin Wallace, LHP/OF, Flower Mound HS
Texas commit. 6-foot-3, 205-pound strong frame. The Sophomore works from a ¾ slot with a solid delivery, good tempo and advanced feel for 3 pitches. The fastball was 83-86 mph with arm-side run. His slider is a plus pitch at 68-71 mph, with 2-8 shape, he throws it with great feel on both sides of the plate. He throws his changeup with the same arm speed as his fastball from 69-73 mph with some arm-side fade. Offensively had a good set-up and gets ready to hit with small leg kick and good hand load. In three at-bats he hammered a ball to third base and was a 4.52 down the line; drew a walk, and hit a groundball to shortstop with a 4.69
Colton Bowman, LHP, Bullard HS
Oklahoma State recruit. 6-foot-2, 180-pound, sturdy frame. The left-hander was poised getting the ball for the Indians Scout Team's first game in Jupiter, FL. The sophomore sat 82-85 with a fastball that remained down in the zone, and was moved in and out with ease. Bowman's slider was 72-74, and he showed a changeup with fade at 70-71.Bowman still has room to grow physically, and should see an increase in velocity to an already clean, quick arm.
Elijah McCormack, RHP, Coppell HS
Oklahoma commit. 6-foot-3, 165-pound, wiry frame. Worked from a high-3/4 slot with whippy arm action. Pitched with his fastball at 84-87 mph, sitting mostly 85 mph. He showed a slider that ranged from 70-73 mph.
Jacob Meador, RHP, Centennial HS
TCU commit. 5-foot-10, 170-pounds. Works from a high-¾ slot with an athletic delivery. The fastball has some arm-side run at 87-89 mph with a swing-and-miss slider with slurvey-type action and good depth.
