The Texas high school season kicks off on February 19, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 26, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

SEASON PREVIEW

The Friendswood Mustangs return an experienced club in 2018, with 6 position players and three arms. The pitching staff will be led by Rice recruit 2018 LHP Brandon Daskins (Ranked No.62 in TX). This past fall, Deskins' fastball was 85-89 with arm side run, while he also shows good feel for a slurve a 71-72 mph. Two other key returners to the staff will be 2019 RHP Bradley Wilcott and 2019 LHP Ryan Vera, both earned Honorable Mention All-District. 2018 OF John Nemecek (6.69 runner) will lead the offensive charge, along with fellow 1st Team All-District selection 2018 1B/DH Thad Horman. A key underclassman to keep an eye on is 2021 Izaac Pacheco, who is already committed to Texas A&M and is the No. 1 ranked player in the Texas 2021 Class, No. 10 Overall.
