CLASS OF 2018
Peter Giombetti, 2018, 3B, Great Valley HS (PA)
6-foot-2, 205-pounder is committed to Catholic University. The right-handed hitter has grown and inch and put on thirty pounds of good weight since we last saw him two years ago. He starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. Hands start low but get to a point of strength in load position. Displayed and aggressive lower half and present power to the pull side with a bat exit velocity of 91 mph. Ran a 7.35 60-yard dash and showcased active feet with confidence in his glove hand at third base. 84 mph arm strength across the diamond showed good carry.
Eric Holz, 2018, C, Loyalsock Township
6-foot, 200-pound backstop is committed to Wilson College. The right-handed hitter took one of the better rounds of batting practice over the course of the two day event. He starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a subtle heel-raise stride. Displayed little wasted movement in his swing with a direct swing path. Showed solid hip turn and hands work well through contact. Consistently barreled the baseball with authority with a bat exit velocity of 91 mph. Still working back from a football related injury in the fall but appears ready to go at full strength this spring. Showcased pop times of 2.07-2.16 and 74 mph arm strength out of the crouch.
Dalton Jackson, 2018, OF, Mercersburg Academy
6-foot, 200-pounder is a Navy commit completing a post-grad year at Mercersburg Academy this spring. The Virginia native was one of the more prolific power hitters in Virginia's Class of 2017 prior to reclassifying and deciding to enter college a year later. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed excellent balance and few moving parts to his swing. Routinely creates back spin with significant present power to the pull side. Registered a 93 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 6.92 60-yard dash. Defensive skills lag behind his offense at this stage in his development. Showcased 83 mph arm strength and enough foot speed to play either corner outfield position.
Jayvian Pettit, 2018, 3B/RHP, Wilson
5-foot-11, 160-pound uncommitted prospect showcased some upside with raw skills as a two-way player that should continue to develop. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a knee-to-knee stride in initiating his swing. Hands work well through contact and showed and ability to barrel the baseball routinely to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Displayed active feet and a quick release defensively while playing through the baseball. 82 mph arm strength will play on the left side of the infield while some stiffness in glove hand should improve in time. The right-hander sat 80-82 with a quick arm out of a high 3/4 to over-the-top arm slot. Curveball showed 11/5 rotation at 65-66 and changeup is thrown with good sell and arm side run at 74-76. Drops down to a side arm slot to throw a slider at 69-70 and also showed decent feel for a splitter at 73-75. Overall athleticism and a much higher ceiling makes Pettit an interesting follow for schools still looking for a prospect in this class this spring.
