For the second straight year, Wisconsin prospects showed well at the 15th Annual Super 60 on Feb. 5 at The Max. Last year, Wisconsin produced first-rounder Gavin Lux and second-rounder Ben Rortvedt, among other standouts. This year, the Badger State was home of the top overall prospect at the loaded event: OF Jarred Kelenic, who incidentally was the only 2018 player invited.

Although Wisconsin’s 2017 class doesn’t have the same high-end depth as the 2016 crop, seven prospects performed solidly in front of 100-plus scouts in attendance.

Today we look at the Wisconsin position prospects at the Super 60, listed alphabetically:

Jack Blomgren, SS, Janesville Craig HS, WI
Michigan recruit. 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with athletic, well-proportioned frame. Showcased well across the board at the Super 60, especially in the field. Shows all the requisite skills to stick at short. Athletic overall actions, soft, reliable hands, fields the ball in rhythm, ranges well to both sides. Short, athletic arm action, accurate throws with plenty of carry, clocked at 88 mph across the infield. Offensively, has a balanced line-drive approach. Small leg kick back, shows rhythm and timing throughout, loose, athletic hands, maintains excellent balance through contact. Registered 91 mph exit velocity with wood. Also ran a 6.84 laser-timed 60.

Zach Clayton, 3B, Oconomowoc HS, WI
Oregon State recruit. 6-foot-2, 220-pound right-handed hitting third baseman, physical athlete, mature build with proportional strength and defined lower half. A three-sport standout, Clayton didn’t showcase any flashy, loud tools at the Super 60 - except for the consistently loud contact when he struck a baseball - but delivered a rock-solid performance across the board. Especially at the plate. Offensively, he’s simple and strong to the ball, mechanically quiet, direct, short path, strong through contact, works all fields with confidence. Ball jumps with backspin carry. Advanced overall approach. Registered 92 mph exit velocity with wood. Runs well for his frame, 7.00 laser-timed 60. Defensively, profiles as third baseman or corner outfielder. Stiff-wristed throws have on-line carry, 88 mph across the infield, with accuracy. Reliable hands, average lateral range. 

Jarred Kelenic, OF, Waukesha West HS, WI (2018)
Louisville recruit. 6-foot-1, 190-pound left-handed hitting outfielder, advanced strength for age, rock-solid muscle with a defined lower half and proportional strength throughout. Currently ranked No. 1 in 2018 overall rankings, and only solidified his status with his stellar performance at the Super 60. As the only junior at the event, he was unequivocally the top prospect in attendance. A true five-tool prospect. Offensively, Kelenic has a balanced, compact swing with simple explosive strength, along with advanced rhythm and timing. His barrel awareness and presence in the box far exceeds his years. He shows power to all fields as he recorded a 102 exit velocity with wood. Defensively, he has plus arm strength and true carry on his throws. He was clocked at 91 mph from the outfield, with all of his throws seemingly accelerating as the ball neared the catcher. He kicked off his day by running a 6.61 laser-timed 60, fourth fastest at the event. And he did it all of the above with a substantial cut on his finger of his throwing hand.
