2017 Prospect Review: #1 Casey Martin
December 31, 2017
As the calendar turns to December, I want to review the top prospects from the 2017. These players have separated themselves as top prospect, with the potential at some point in their career to become professional prospects, if they are not already.
#1 Casey Martin, MIF Lonoke HS
Martin was a productive player for Lonoke High School from the start, fueling a dynamic offense from the beginning of his career. Martin continued to show improvement throughout his career not only as an advanced hitter but a dynamic athlete.
Martin showed more offensive prowess than any position player I have covered in 10 years of scouting Arkansas High School baseball. A dream of Martin’s was to play baseball at the University of Arkansas. This made his decision very easy in terms of the MLB draft. Martin was viewed as unsignable and was passed on in the MLB draft. If signable Martin very easily could have been a top 10 round pick in the 2017 draft.
