Today’s rollout of the 2017 PBR Third Team All-State concludes our coverage of the 2017 high school season. Following the completion of the season we updated the High School Power 25. We also named St. Viator's Cole Kmet the Illinois Player of the Year, updated the final Illinois 2017 rankings and selected three all-state teams.
Let’s take a look at the 2017 PBR Third Team All-State roster:
PITCHERS
Angel Sandoval RHP / 3B / St. Laurence, IL / 2017
St. Francis commit. Sandoval emerged as one of the top starters for a St. Laurence team that went 36-6 and finished in third place in class 4A. |
Colton Hale RHP / 3B / St. Joseph-Ogden, IL / 2017
Illinois-Springfield commit. Hale led St. Joseph-Ogden to a runner-up finish in class 2A. In the state semifinal game Hale struck out eight and ran his fastball up to 89 mph. |
Dan Vos LHP / Chicago Christian, IL / 2017
Trinity Christian commit. Vos was the ace of the staff for a Chicago Christian squad that went 40-2 and made it to state for the first time in school history. |
CATCHER
Ryan Hampe C / 1B / Sandburg, IL / 2018
UIC commit. Hampe, despite battling an injury for part of the year put up impressive power numbers and helped lead Sandburg to a class 4A Super-Sectional game. |
FIRST BASEMAN
Steven Sanchez LHP / 1B / Mundelein, IL / 2018
Arkansas commit. Sanchez hit .600 in Mundelein's five postseason games including a walk-off homerun. |
MIDDLE INFIELD
Ryan King SS / OF / Brother Rice, IL / 2017
Michigan State commit. King is a high-level defender and was the offensive sparkplug for the Crusader offense. |
Cole Greer SS / OF / Pleasant Plains, IL / 2017
Lincoln Land CC commit. The athletic middle infielder stole an astounding 45 bases and hit just shy of .500 for the season. |
THIRD BASEMAN
Noah Herdman 3B / C / Neuqua Valley, IL / 2018
Uncommitted. Herdman emerged as the top offensive threat for Neuqua who finished 35-2-1 and made it to a class 4A Super-Sectional. |
OUTFIELD
Zaid Walker OF / 3B / Homewood-Flossmoor, IL / 2018
Michigan State commit. Walker is one of the most physically impressive athletes in the 2018 class. The right-handed hitter has explosive bat speed, runs a 6.76 60 and has a plus arm from the outfield.

Jonny Butler OF / 2B / Minooka, IL / 2017
Heartland CC commit. Butler patrols center field as good as anyone in the state and broke out with the bat this spring.

Jon Kelso OF / Willowbrook, IL / 2017
Wisconsin-Platteville commit. Kelso was the leading hitter for a Willowbrook squad that finished the year 26-9.

Nate Gomez RHP / OF / South Elgin, IL / 2018
Uncommitted. Gomez led South Elgin to a 25-5 season and a class 4A Super-Sectional game. Gomez mostly known for his prowess on the mound, ran his fastball up to 91 mph this spring.
