The Draft Blog compiles any of those entries pertinent to the current draft year so you can read it in one, central location. The 2017 Major League Baseball Draft takes place in June and there are plenty of prospects within PBR's coverage that anticipate hearing their name called.
House Collects Two Hits In Final Game – 5/12/17

OF Mason House (Whitehouse HS, TX), who recently committed to Oklahoma State, stands at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds with a high-waisted, athletic frame. In BP, the left-handed hitter put on a solid display of power, launching several home runs to his pull side. He starts from a slightly open stance, using a smooth leg kick to land with leverage and athleticism.
Leach, Davis Turn In Solid ProCase Performances – 5/11/17

The top amateur arm in Canada, RHP Landon Leach’s first and last pitch of the Ontario ProCase was 94 mph. He worked three innings and ended up striking out eight of the 14 hitters he faced.
OF Cooper Davis, a Vanderbilt recruit, answered questions of a potential nagging foot injury that forced him to fly home early from his time with the Canadian Junior National Team in Florida. He was clearly healthy, running a 6.6-second 60 on a slow track and moved well with easy strides.
SS Adam Hall, the top position player in Canada, didn’t light up the boxscore, but showed the tools that him an early-round consideration in the draft. He ran a 6.7-second 60 and showed a quick, balanced stroke in BP with his second round producing hard contact and more line drives to both sides of the field.
McMahon Throws No-Hitter – 5/9/17

RHP Chris McMahon (West Chester Rustin HS, PA) came within two full count walks of a perfect game on Monday afternoon, settling for a shutout and no-hitter in front of more than 20 scouts. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound right-hander sat 92-94 mph all evening with an effortless, loose and high-3/4 arm slot.
Tabor Solidifies Himself As Top 50 Prospect – 5/6/17
One of the biggest risers this spring, RHP Matt Tabor (Milton Academy, MA) has solidified himself as the top arm in the Northeast and a possible top 50 pick in June. RHP Tommy Mace (Sunlake HS, FL) was lights out on Wednesday night, throwing a shutout in eight innings to help advance his team to the district title game. The Florida recruit has a tall, projectable frame with long legs standing at 6-foot-6, 195 pounds. He has added to his frame over the last several months and still has plenty of room to fill out.

RHP Alex Scherff (Colleyville Heritage HS, TX) turned in a stellar performance against cross-town rival Grapevine HS, TX. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Texas A&M recruit threw a no-hitter, allowing just one walk while striking out eight. Working from a high-3/4 slot, Scherff has a short, quick arm stroke and sat 94-96 mph with his four-seamer, touching 97-99.
Gore Punctuates Regular Season – 4/28/17

In his final regular season start, LHP MacKenzie Gore (Whiteville HS, NC) took the mound against a rival in South Columbus HS, NC, in front of several high-level scouts, most of which represented teams with top 10 picks in the draft. It was business as usual for the East Carolina recruit, as he cruised through a complete game on 99 pitches. He allowed four baserunners, one on an error that was erased on a caught stealing, two hits and a walk. One of the hits was a weak roller to third base.
Whitten Dominates Osbourn – 4/28/17

RHP Kyle Whitten (Osbourn Park HS, VA) was dominant in a six-inning start against Osbourn HS, VA. He struck out 15 while giving up just one hit and two walks on 89 pitches. He started out sitting 89-91 mph, then was 90-93 throughout, touching 94 three times.
Williams Tosses Second Straight No-Hitter – 4/26/17

For the second consecutive week, RHP Gavin Williams (Cape Fear HS, NC) dominated an opposing lineup and went seven innings without allowing a hit. Wednesday night against Jack Britt HS, NC, the East Carolina recruit allowed three walks and struck out 11. Tall and projectable at 6-foot-6, 200 pounds, Williams was 92-95 mph in the first inning and 90-92 in the second before settling into the 88-92 range.

He pitches with moderate tempo with a full arm circle and high-3/4 slot.

The Florida recruit stands at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds with a long, lean frame and projection. He prepares to pitch with a purpose and has an imposing presence on the mound. He’s in control of the game at all times. His delivery is clean, directional and lands with a close toe and a strong front side. His arm action is short, clean and quick through a high-3/4 slot.

Ferguson continues to impress with his athleticism on the mound.

Beck Powers North Davidson To Lopsided Win – 4/7/17

OF Austin Beck (North Davidson HS, NC) has helium this spring with scouts getting their first serious look at him. The North Carolina recruit missed last summer and fall with an ACL tear. A handful of scouts, including a couple national crosscheckers and an assistant GM, watched him take BP on a Friday afternoon. He showed quick hands that generated bat speed and allowed the ball to cut through a stiff win that was blowing in. Most scouts left after BP for other games, but the two national crosscheckers and assistant GM remained.

Continuing The Rode Show’s swing through Tennessee and Kentucky, Thursday featured RHP Joe Boyle (North Oldham HS, KY). A Notre Dame recruit, the 6-foot-6, 230-pounder moved to the Louisville area from St. Louis last summer. Making his second start of the season, Boyle showed electric stuff and an easy delivery, but struggled to find the strike zone. In four innings, he allowed one run on four hits and five walks on 96 pitches. However, he improved his strike percentage from his first outing and struck out 11.
Sloan Hits 97 In First Start – 3/21/17
Against Cherry Creek HS, CO, RHP Caleb Sloan (Regis Jesuit HS, CO) made his first regular season start of the spring and hit touched 96-97 in the first inning. He allowed a double and home run to start the game, but settled in for the rest of his appearance.

Kutt Shows Off Signature Slider – 3/20/17

RHP Ryan Kutt (Brother Rice HS, IL) made his first start for top-ranked Brother Rice in chilly temperatures. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder did what he has done in nearly every outing since his freshman year, throwing a high volume of quality strikes and missed barrels with his slider. In five shutout innings, he struck out seven and walked none, allowing six hits. His slider is the most dominant out pitch in Illinois. He throws it hard and for strikes at 81-84 with sharp, late two-plane break.

Signability is a major factor for high school prospects in the draft and scouts spend a lot of time trying to gauge a kid’s interest in pro ball. SS Tanner Morris (Miller School, VA) may be hinting at his desires, as the Virginia recruit is swinging a wood bat in games. Morris attracted a dozen or so scouts on back-to-back chilly days in Raleigh, NC, and went 2-for-7 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

SS Freddy Zamora (Killian HS, FL) was impressive throughout a weekend game, both offensively and defensively. The right-handed hitting shortstop showed his range to the left, with sure hands and an above average arm on his only play in the game. Offensively, he was 1-for-3 on the day with an RBI double. He has rhythm and a big leg kick, but stayed on time against a good young arm and showed feel for the barrel.

Against Westminster Christian Academy, FL, the Mavericks of Archbishop McCarthy HS, FL, sent three arms to the hill, including two 2017s with aspirations of being drafted. Starting for the Mavericks was RHP Daniel Federman, a Miami recruit, who allowed three hits in three innings while striking out six.
Relieving Federman was 3B/RHP Joe Perez, also a Miami recruit. Perez was lights out and showed why he has a chance to be an early-round pick in June.
Jones Attracting Attention – 3/6/17

There was some thought that SS Greg Jones Jr. (Cary HS, NC) was flying under the radar, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. A UNC Wilmington recruit, he has gained size and strength since last summer, standing more in the 6-foot-1, 165-pound range. In a game against East Wake HS, NC, Jones was playing in front of a dozen scouts, made up of mostly crosscheckers and a couple scouting directors. He went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in his first at-bat.

RHP Bryce Bonnin (Barbers Hill HS, TX) was dominant through five innings in a 5-1 win over Langham Creek HS, TX. An Arkansas recruit, he is currently ranked No. 54 in the PBR Draft 100. The right-hander stands at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, with broad shoulders, long arms, a strong lower half, and high-waisted frame. He works from a high-3/4 slot with a long, clean and loose arm stroke. Bonnin has an athletic delivery with quick tempo and energy down the mound.

His fastball was typically had downhill plane, but did flash some arm-side life at times when it was up.

RHP Robert Burke (Zachary HS, LA) logged three innings in Zachary’s season opener, striking out two while allowing two hits and a walk. A Northwestern State recruit, he has an athletic frame with a strong lower half at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds.
