2017 Batesville HS Catcher Zach Britton Picks Louisville

Zach BrittonZach Britton, the fourth ranked player in Indiana's 2017 class and 15th ranked player in the overall PBR coverage area, committed to the University of Louisville and Head Coach Dan McDonnell last night.  

Britton is a 6-foot, 165 pound catcher with one of the purest left-handed swings in his class with easy pull-side power.  A member of Team Indiana in this year's Future Games, Britton was impressive at the event's positional player workout delivering a 1.93 pop time and sitting in the 2.01-2.07 range. 

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose Louisville?   

Britton: As soon as I stepped on campus it felt like the place I needed to be. Being less than 2 hrs from home and able to compete at such a high level of baseball is a priority for me. The coaching staff immediately made me feel like a part of their family.  

PBR: Where did Louisville first see you compete? 

Britton: Coach Williams first saw me during the high school season when I was catching Bryan Hoeing. They saw me several times during the summer playing for the Indiana Bulls, PBR Underclass Games and PBR Future Games. 

PBR: When did you take your first visit to Louisville?

Britton: September 1, 2014 

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play when you first arrive on campus?

Britton: They expect me to use this commitment as a motivational tool to get better everyday until I get there.  Then compete everyday once I arrive on campus, in the classroom, in the weight room and on the field.  

PBR: Were there any other schools you were considering?  

Britton: Yes.  IU, Miami (Florida), Purdue, Notre Dame, Clemson and Wake Forest. 

PBR: You played for Team Indiana at this year's Future Games, talk about your experience playing in that event.  

Britton: It was crazy, if you looked outside the field there were countless amount of coaches from all over the country.  I enjoyed playing with the older boys and the exposure was second to none. 

PBR: You've attended multiple PBR events over the last couple of years, how did PBR help in regards to recruiting?  

Britton: PBR has really gotten my name out there.  I recommend going to a PBR showcase to any young player who dreams of playing at the next level. PBR is a great organization and is respected by everyone in the baseball world.  

PBR: You play for the Indiana Bulls in the summer, what has that experience been like?

Britton: The Bulls have so many great coaches that care about the kids first and foremost.  It is a prestigious program that gives a great sense of pride to everyone who gets the honor of putting on an Indiana Bulls uniform.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Britton: My parents. They have been here for me every step of the way and they've made me the player and person I am today. I owe all of my talent to them.

PBR: What were your stats last season at Batesville?  

Britton: My freshman year I hit .459, my OBP was .518, I had 45 hits, 20 RBI, 36 runs 4 triples, 12 doubles and 2 HRs receiving All-EIAC.  

PBR: Now that you've committed and still have three more seasons at Batesville, what are your goals going forward as a HS player?  

Britton: I'm going to continue to work the hardest on the field, in the weight room and in the classroom.   Like coach Mac says I'm going to use the commitment "as a springboard" to continue to improve and stay focused everyday.  My goal is to compete for a 3A state championship over the next three years.
