X-FACTOR
Lane Fleming. The big right-hander was named KABC 3A All-State pitcher last spring in addition to earning Flint Hills League First Team honors for the second consecutive year after recording an 11-0 record and 0.85 ERA.
NEWCOMER TO WATCH
Daniel Bachura, LHP, 2016. With the departure of 3A Pitcher of the Year Layton Leydig, lefty Daniel Bachura is a strong candidate to enter starting rotation this spring.
KEY PLAYER LOST
Layton Leydig, RHP (Colby CC, basketball)
KEY STAT
Last spring Council Grove racked up a fourth straight Flint Hills League title and currently own a remarkable 61-game league-winning streak.
2015 OUTLOOK:
Coming off perhaps the best season in school history in 2014 the Braves will have to replace a number of key players, namely KABC 3A Pitcher of the Year Layton Leydig and Second Team All-State outfielder Tanner Langvardt. 3A First Team All-State pitcher Lane Fleming, who plays first base and provides middle of the order right-handed thump at the plate, returns for his senior campaign. Two additional All-League infielders return in junior shortstop Keegan Honas and senior third baseman Treyton Taylor. All-League DH junior Peyton Lerner will move behind the plate replacing First Team All-League catcher Aaron Bachura. Trey Langvardt, a junior that is also the Braves quarterback in the fall, is a strong, athletic 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-hand hitter that will man center field again this spring after hitting in the three-hole and posting a .375 average as a sophomore.
