2014 Underclass Spotlight: Kyle Davis (CHCA)
March 28, 2012
Kyle Davis, IF/C, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, Class of 2014
Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy has high expectations this spring.
With talented seniors such as Ted Andrews (Furman), Matt Blankenship (Indiana Wesleyan), and unsigned senior Parker Roe, the squad has several seasoned veterans.
However, the key to their success could come down to the play of several talented underclassmen, including sophomore Kyle Davis.
Davis recently attended the Pre-Season Underclass Showcase in Dayton.
His scouting report states:
Good physical projectability on this 6-foot, 183-pound athlete. Shows obvious strength potential. Projects as solid 3B/2B offensive infielder type. Ran 5.22 40-yard dash (concrete surface). This right-handed bat showed good stance balance with good load and squares barrel well on ball. Has 84 mph bat speed off the tee and with good finish and lower half torque. Will be future power bat. Defensively, shows good hands and lateral movement. Shows 77 mph arm strength from all angles. Solid D-1 projection.
Reflecting on his skills, Davis said, “I think my best tool as a player is my ability to hit for power and average or my defense.”
He continued, “If a scout were to walk away from seeing me, I would want him to describe me as a ‘dirtbag’ … one who can be put into any situation and make an impact and hustle everywhere.”
With high expectations this spring, Davis knows CHCA will have a target on their back.
After evaluating his team’s schedule, Davis said, “Our toughest conference opponent will probably be Seven Hills. I am really looking forward to playing Moeller, Mason, and Hamilton Badin.”
While Davis is only a sophomore, he is being pro-active in his recruiting process.
“I would like to play in the south … I know the south is great baseball, but my goal is to play with the best.”
However, Davis’ decision will come down to much more than baseball.
“I will look for a school with a good sports medicine program as I will be focusing on that as my major.”
So far, Davis has been in contact with several schools, including Charleston Southern, East Carolina, Western Carolina, and South Alabama.
This summer, Davis will be playing for the Cincinnati Baseball Club.
