2012 Pitchers highlight West Lafayette Showcase

1. Jordan Deal, RHP, Brownsburg HS, 2012: Deal is a 6-foot-3 right handed pitcher, with long arms and legs. He possesses a loose, quick arm with a fluid motion and clean arm action. Coming off an arm injury, he was able to consistently throw his fastball in the low 80?s, topping out at 82, and showed off his plus breaking ball. Once Deal is back to 100 percent look for his velocity to increase. He shows he has what it takes to be successful at the next level, and is someone to pay close attention to this upcoming spring.
2. Jake Weber, RHP/OF, Homestead HS, 2012: Weber is a 6-foot-1 right handed pitcher with an athletic body. On the mound he has a fluid delivery and quick arm. His fastball is consistently 82-83 mph. From the outfield he shows a strong arm and has been clocked as high as 86 mph. At the next level he projects to be a two-way player, outfielder and reliever. At the plate, Weber?s swing shows potential with his quick hands, and ran an impressive 4.1 from home to first.
3. David Jercha, RHP/1B, Portage HS, 2012:- Jercha is a big projectable first baseman at 6-foot-5, 235 pounds. His left handed swing is quick and easy, and shows plus power to all fields. Jercha should have no problem adding strength his large frame. On the mound he pitches from a high ¾ arm slot, and throws a good breaking ball and a changeup with arm side run. His fastball is in the 77-80. Jercha consistently threw all three pitches for a strike. His frame alone leads you to believe there is more in his tank.
4. Michael Carnahan, RHP, Harrison HS, 2012: Carnahan showed he has the potential to be a great prospect in the 2012 class. His 6-foot-5in body projects to throw hard. Mechanically he is still in transition, but his arm is quick and his ball is heavy. He displayed a good curve ball and a sharp slider (75MPH) that he was able to throw for strikes. Carnahan should see a spike in his velocity over the spring.5. Jon Keesling, 3B/RHP, Wapahani HS, 2012: The six-foot-two, 205 pound Keesling is currently ranked 100th in the 2012 rankings. He shows quick hands and the ability to turn on the baseball with some pop. His body is projectable to add strength. On the mound Keesling displayed polished mechanics with a 78-81 mph fastball. He featured a plus changeup and a breaking ball that shows good bite when thrown hard.
Other prospects of note
Alex Cohn, C, Brebuef HS, 2011: A 6-foot-3 inch, 210 pound catcher, with a strong body and arm. From the crouching position he was 79 mph consistently. He showed a pop time of 2.15 with a strong arm.
Corleone Desimone, 2B/P, Jimtown HS, 2012: Desimone is a 5-foot-11 inch second baseman that shows fluidity and sound fielding mechanics. He ran an event best 4.0 from home to first. On the mound he displayed a sound delivery with a fastball topping out at 81 mph.
Drew Sawyer, MIF, Kokomo HS, 2012: Sawyer is a contact hitter, with a short, quick compact swing. He projects to hit for average. Defensively he displays good hands. He was tied for an event best of 4.0 from home to first.
Jordan Gard, LHP, Mishawaka HS, 2012: This 6-foot-3 inch lefty is very raw mechanically, however a tall, long lefty touching 81 in January makes him an easy follow. His fastball sits at 79-81 mph. Once his mechanics improve look for his velocity to increase.
Garrett Phelps, RHP/3B, Crawfordsville HS, 2014: Phelps is a 5-foot-10 inch, 175 pound freshman with an athletic body. His fastball was consistently 80-81mph with arm side run and some sink. He projects to increase his size and strength. As a freshman, Phelps is a prospect worth paying attention to over the next couple of years.
