Eighteen teams are in Richmond, VA for the 16U Summer Championships. We take a look at some players who had a standout day in front of our staff.
*Listed in alphabetical order*
Brody Comparto 2B / Oscar Smith, VA / 2026Wider, square setup with balance in the swing. Line drive tendencies and had solid feel for the barrel. Contact, hit tool type of bat and had some solid at bats on the day.
Jalen German RHP / 1B / Trinity Episcopal , VA / 2026While German is known mostly for the big arm on the mound, there is definite physicality in the swing at the plate. Raw power that shows the ability to produce in game as well.
Noah Haught SS / 2B / Bishop O'Connell, VA / 2025One of the better uncommitted infielders in the VA/DC 2025 class, Haught had a big spring at O'Connell and picked up where he left off. Really solid actions in the middle and a contact bat that continues to show the potential to hit for high average. Flashes doubles power, but mostly a line drive/gap to gap hitter. One to watch going forward.
Drew Hayes RHP / SS / Summerville, SC / 2025The premier arm of the day was the College of Charleston commit. Short quick arm, command of the fastball, and attacked hitters in the zone. Arm slows a bit on the secondary stuff, but has feel for the zone and the curveball has well above average spin with some bottom.
Grayson McCarthy RHP / 1B / Yorktown, VA / 2025McCarthy was an interesting arm we saw at a fall scout day, mostly because of his ability to spin the slider. Normal effort delivery and works from a three-quarter slot. While it is not overpowering fastball velo, the fastball plays a tick quicker because of his ability to spin it whenever he wants. Will be an arm to watch as he continues to mature.
Cash McDade C / OF / Gonzaga College High School, VA / 2025The top ranked catcher in the Virginia 2025 class flashed some bright spots on Thursday. Hang and hover load to stride. Medium length to the swing and a level path through the zone. Got a bit out front on his double, but showed hand/wrist strength to muscle it into right center. Threw out a runner in game with a 2.08 in game pop. Big arm behind the plate with plenty of carry through the bag.
Luke Pokrovsky LHP / Schalick, NJ / 2025Pokrovsky showed off his two way ability on Thursday. On the mound it is a fairly low effort delivery. Three-quarter slot and throws a 80-82 mph fastball with some downhill plane to it. Bigger breaking ball for strikes at 67-68 mph. At the plate it is a short quick swing and level path through the zone. Shorter leg kick and gets down on time.
Christian Serrano SS / 3B / Pro5 Baseball Acad., NC / 2026Lanky 6-foot-3 frame with room to fill. Relaxed hands, loads and separates in rhythm, and simplifies the stride. Not a lot of moving parts in the swing and shows adjustability, especially with two strikes. NC State commit.
Connor Smith C / OF / Warwick, VA / 2025Solid frame and aggressive approach at the plate. Seeks contact out front and has the strength to be an impact guy with the bat. Had a few loud barrels on the first day of play.
