Western PA Top Prospect Games Analysis: Blue Team

The summer rush of PBR events in Pennsylvania began this week with the 2016 Western PA Top Prospect Games on June 14 and 15. Ninety prospects from Pennsylvania and West Virginia gathered for two days of nine inning games and showcase activities on the campus of Seton Hill University. Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at the prospects that participated as a member of the Blue Team.

TOP PROSPECT
Zach Rohaley, RHP, Canon-McMillan HS, Class of 2018
6-foot-1, 195-pound right-hander impressed with a heavy fastball and quality secondary offerings during three scoreless innings of work. Sat 83-85 out of a high 3/4 arm slot while creating interesting angles to the plate with pronounced fall towards first base dugout. Also commanded a 65 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and a solid changeup at 75 mph. Registered six strikeouts while facing the minimum over three innings. Projectable frame and ability to get down hill with solid lower half drive should lead to additional velocity moving forward.

Chris Bailey, 3B, Chapmanville Regional HS (WV), Class of 2017
5-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance with a high hands load. Utilizes a heel-raise stride and solid lower half action to create solid barrel whip (83 mph bat exit velocity). Displayed a feel for the barrel in batting practice and went 2-for-5 with two doubles in game action. Ran a 7.94 60-yard dash and showcased deliberate actions defensively with accurate 74 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Morgan Bell, SS/2B, Somerset HS, Class of 2017
6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitter has made significant strides in past two years. Starts from a square stance and initiates swing with a short stride. Displayed a bat exit velocity of 83 mph and would generate greater barrel whip by incorporating lower half more fully in his swing. Continues to show strides defensively where he flashed fluid actions, active feet and solid arm strength across the diamond (82 mph). Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash and went 3-for-8 with two doubles in game action over two days.
Tyler Bywalski, SS/RHP, South Park HS, Class of 2018
5-foot-10, 150-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Deep load and tendency to pull bat head through the zone leads to some barrel drag with a bat exit velocity of 71 mph. Showcased active feet defensively (6.94 60-yard dash) with a soft glove hand and accurate 80 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Righty sat 76-78 out of a high 3/4 arm slot during two solid innings of work on the mound. Also flashed a 65 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and a 71 mph changeup with good arm speed that has some tumbling action. Faced one batter over the minimum with one strikeout while pounding the zone.
Tommy Camino, OF/3B, Pine-Richland HS, Class of 2018
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitter starts from a wide, square stance and initiates his swing from a deep load position with a flat barrel path. Displayed an 87 mph bat exit velocity and went 2-for-6 at the plate in game action. Flashed athletic actions defensively with accurate 84 mph arm strength from the outfield. Solid all-around skill set makes Camino a definite follow in this class.
Nate Emerson, OF, Franklin Area HS, Class of 2017
6-foot, 150-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance with a high hands load. Utilizes a short lift-and-replace stride and loose hands to get through the baseball well with a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. Flashed his foot speed (6.65 60-yard dash) in legging out two infield singles on day one of the event. Impressed defensively both days taking excellent routes to the baseball and making several outstanding plays while flashing 89 mph arm strength. Projectable frame has plenty of room to fill out. Projects as a top-of the order hitter and defensive game changer at the next level.
Josh Kirwin, RHP, Rocky Grove HS, Class of 2017
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-hander made a name for himself with a solid three innings of work in game action. Sat 81-84 with hard, late run to his fastball. Also showed a solid 72 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation. Third pitch in his arsenal is a 69 mph changeup that will need to still be developed. Allowed one run over three innings while striking out two. Showcased athleticism by also running a 6.88 60-yard dash.
Nolan Martino, RHP, Pittsburgh Central Catholic HS, Class of 2017
6-foot-2, 175-pound right-hander sat 81-83 from a high 3/4 arm slot with arm-side run to his fastball. Also commanded a 77 mph changeup thrown at near-fastball arm speed and a solid slider at 78 mph with some hip coil to his delivery. Worked three scoreless innings in game action striking out two while recording six outs via ground ball. Solid frame and fluid, athletic delivery project for velocity spikes moving forward.
Vinny Mastrangelo, C/1B, Beaver Area HS, Class of 2019
5-foot-10, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Compact swing and strong lower half results in a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. Advanced defensive skills for a catcher his age. Flashed pop times of 2.14-2.21 on throws of 77 mph from crouch. Sound receiver presents soft wall for blocking. Definite follow in this class with potential to be an elite defender.
Nathaniel Mellott, OF, St. Joseph's Catholic HS, Class of 2017
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a short leg-lift stride to initiate his swing. Displayed a short swing path and a feel for the barrel during batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. Displayed capable defensive actions with an ability to play through the baseball and accurate 77 mph arm strength from the outfield. Showed solid feet (7.13 60-yard dash).
Justice Muszynski, LHP/OF, Seton-La Salle Catholic HS, Class of 2017
5-foot-10, 165-pound lefty sat 73-75 from a 3/4 arm slot during three solid innings of work on the mound. Also flashed a 63 mph curveball with 1/7 rotation and a changeup at 55 mph. Faced just two hitters over the minimum while keeping hitters off balance.
Left-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates a dead pull swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Went 1-for-3 in game action on day one while showcasing a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Flashed solid foot speed (6.99 60-yard dash) and the ability to play outfield and first base.
Connor Rakow, OF/RHP, Franklin Area HS, Class of 2019
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a short leg-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Registered an 80 mph bat exit velocity and flashed a solid feel for the barrel in batting practice. Displayed athletic actions defensively with 83 mph arm strength from the outfield while running a 7.20 60-yard dash.
Sat 77-79 off the mound from an over-the-top arm slot. Also commanded a 64 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation.
Roger Roettger, 3B/RHP, Moon Area HS, Class of 2018
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a heel-raise stride. Demonstrated the ability to use all fields during batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 75 mph. Displayed accurate 72 mph arm strength across the diamond and ran a 7.53 60-yard dash.
Sat 71-73 from a 3/4 arm slot during two scoreless innings of work on the mound with natural cut to his fastball. Also commanded a 68 mph slider that led to five ground ball outs in six at bats.
Kyle Shingledecker, SS/2B, Grove City HS, Class of 2017
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-lift stride. Very quick hands a solid lower half turn leads to significant barrel whip (89 mph bat exit velocity) and balls jump of his barrel. Went 3-for-7 with a double and a triple in game action. Ran a 6.96 60-yard dash, but plays even faster. Showed big arm strength across the diamond defensively (86 mph) and the ability to play multiple defensive positions including the outfield at the next level.
Trey Weaver, 1B, Franklin Area HS, Class of 2017
6-foot, 220-pound right-handed hitter displayed improvements across the board in all areas thanks in part to added strength gains. Starts from an open stance and strides to square with a direct swing path and a solid feel for the barrel. Went 1-for-3 with a double in game action on day two of event and registered a bat exit velocity of 93 mph. Displayed solid foot and glove work around the bag at first base with accurate 76 mph arm strength across the diamond.
