PA Director of Scouting
Billy Hitman is a versatile defender that has shown more than capable abilities as a middle infielder. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound uncommitted senior played second base as a sophomore on the Golden Panthers run to a state title in 2014. Hitman made the move to shortstop out of necessity as a junior, but will likely shift behind the plate at the next level.
Hitman, ranked No. 104 in the PA Class of 2016, showcased a simple approach at the plate at the PA Top Prospect Games in June. The right-handed hitter kept his body and head still throughout his swing. Hitman starts slightly open, takes a short stride to square and has some gap power (88-mph exit velo). The versatle defender is a blue-collar kid with limited reps behind the plate at the high school level but has shown an in-game best pop time of 2.12. Hitman has showcased 72 mph arm strength from the crouch and well-above average foot speed for a catcher (6.83 60-yard dash).
