By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

The Red Team roster showcased quality prospects at all positions during the PA Underclass Games July 29 & 30 at Misericordia University, highlighted by two right-handed pitchers that threw on day two. Following is an analysis of the prospects that participated as members of the Red Team.

3B/1B Tommy Baggett, Loyalsock Township HS, Class of 2015

Baggett is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound prospect that represented Pennsylvania at the 2013 Midwest Future Games. He showcased the ability to play both corner infield positions with a 73 mph throwing arm across the diamond. Baggett hits from a slightly open stance and utilizes a strong lower half to create a bat exit velocity of 81 mph.

2B/SS John Bondi, Franklin Regional HS, Class of 2015

Bondi impressed in game action going 2-for-4 on day two and displaying the ability to make all plays from his 2B position. The 5-foot-11, 155-pound prospect displayed a flat bat path during a solid round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. Bondi has an athletic frame and should continue to get stronger in the coming years.

LHP/OF Derek Cursio, Bishop Guilfoyle HS, Class of 2015

Cursio sat 78-79 with some late run to his fastball out of a high 3/4 arm slot in game action. The 5-foot-8, 155-pound lefty also showcased a 1/7 breaking 69 mph curveball and a 70 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed. Cursio has repeatable mechanics and should see increased velocity as his frame continues to develop.

SS/2B Nate Fassnacht, Ephrata HS, Class of 2016

Fassnacht displayed soft hands, quick feet and developing arms strength in the middle infield with throws of 79 mph across the diamond. The 5-foot-7, 140-pound prospect demonstrated the ability to switch hit during batting practice, but hit solely as a righty in game action going 1-for-3 with a double on day two of the event. Fassnacht, a natural right-handed hitter showcased an 82 mph bat exit velocity from the right side of the plate.

3B/RHP Kyle Glouner, Upper Dauphin HS, Class of 2016

Glouner showcased his two-way potential with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph and a short, compact swing that produced consistent line drives in batting practice. The 6-foot, 155-pound righty sat 77-79 on the mound in game action with a 65 mph curveball and a 71 mph changeup. Glouner will be an interesting follow in this class as his frame continues to fill out.

OF Joe Gunn, New Castle HS, Class of 2016

Gunn showcased a bat exit velocity of 87 mph from the left side of the plate and the potential for some pop in his bat. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound prospect hits from a slightly open stance and displayed good extension to his swing going 1-for-3 in game action on day two of the event. Gunn also showed a 73 mph throwing arm from the outfield.

RHP Rhett Jacoby, Parkland HS, Class of 2015

Jacoby was impressive sitting 82-84 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. His 74 mph, 11/5 breaking curveball shows promise but tends to roll at this point. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound righty also showcased a 77 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed. Jacoby was effective at pounding the strike zone and at getting ground balls. He retired the final nine batters he faced on six ground ball outs and four strike outs.

Scott KoschoC/OF Scott Koscho, Penn Trafford HS, Class of 2015

Koscho continued to impress and make improvements in his game. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound backstop showcased pop times of 2.13-2.19 on throws of 72 mph from the crouch. Koscho utilized a 92 mph bat exit velocity and an explosive lower half to drive baseballs repeatedly in batting practice. He went 1-for-2 with a triple in game action on day two of the event. Koscho was selected as his team's MVP for his play over the course of the event.

C/OF Ian Luberti, Northamton HS, Class of 2016

Luberti hits from a slightly open stance and strides to closed with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound prospect showcased pop times of 2.18-2.28 on throws of 69 mph out of the crouch. Luberti also showed athletic actions in the outfield and the potential to play more than one defensive position at the next level.

RHP Max Mattei, Downingtown East HS, Class of 2016

Mattei is a 5-foot-10, 150-pound RHP that filled up the strike zone, sitting 78-80 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. He mixed in a 64 mph, 11/5 breaking ball and showed the ability to get outs, retiring the first six batters he faced. Mattei has repeatable mechanics and an athletic frame that should allow for continued velocity gains in the years to come.

RHP Joe Molettiere, Pennridge HS, Class of 2015

Molettiere was one of the most impressive prospects at the event, sitting 86-88 from the mound in game action with some arm side run. The 6-foot-2, 160-pound righty also showcased a two-seamer with even more run at 82-84 along with a 12/6 curveball at 75 mph and a developing 77 mph changeup. A member of the Team PA roster at this year's Midwest Future Games, Molettiere has long levers and has a tremendous upside as he continues to develop and add weight to his frame.

3B/1B Dante Parente, Blackhawk HS, Class of 2015

Parente hits out of a square stance and creates an 85 mph bat exit velocity with good rhythm to his swing and a solid lower half. The 6-foot, 185-pound left-handed hitter took one of the best rounds of batting practice at the event. Parente showed the ability to barrel the baseball consistently and the ball jumped off his bat when he did.

SS/RHP JJ Robinson, Carlisle HS, Class of 2016

Robinson is a solidly built, 5-foot-8, 160-pound prospect that utilized a strong lower half and no stride to create a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. He displayed a flat bat path and the ability to barrel the baseball consistently in a solid round of batting practice. Robinson went 1-for-3 in game action on day two of the event. He sat 76-78 from the mound out of a 3/4 arm slot with a 66 mph curveball.

C/OF Justin Smith, Warwick HS, Class of 2016

Smith went 1-for-2 with a double on day one of game play. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound prospect showcased pop times of 2.09-2.25 on throws of 69 mph out of the crouch. The left-handed hitter hits from a square stance and utilizes a flat bat path to create an exit velocity of 76 mph.

SS/3B Cristian Viera, J.P. McKaskey HS, Class of 2017

Viera will be a freshman this fall, but his age did not affect his ability to compete. The switch hitter went 2-for-3 with a double on day two of game action. The 5-foot-6, 165-pound middle infielder displayed nearly identical bat exit speeds of 77 mph from the left side and 75 mph from the right side of the plate. Viera will continue to get stronger as his frame fills out and will be a prospect to follow in this class.
