Scouting Report
6/12/22
Physical: Athletic, starting pitcher’s frame at 6-foot-2, 205lbs; feel for the arsenal.
Pitching: RHP. Begins taller off the middle of the rubber. Side rocker step into a deeper position, before gaining pace through a higher stack and back down the slope. Jumped at hitters at times off the rubber with twitchy drop/drive at release. H ¾ slot with fast arm on an 85-87 mph FB that faded to the arm-side of the plate. Ground ball contact, adding 71-75 mph CB that altered shape and intent at release. Similar tunnel that created deception.
6/15/21
Physical: Projectable, athletic 6-foot-2, 190lb frame with clean actions that carry across all phases. 7.03 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: RHH - Balanced, even stance outside shoulder-width from a wide attack as the hands operated loosely from a good attack position. Initiated through a flat path using a short up/down leg lift yielding some weight shift into the front side. Got the hands leveraged out to the front of the plate and found hard line drive contact through the middle of the field during his batting practice round. Posted a T98 mph bat-exit velocity en route to a 353 foot batted ball distance (per Trackman) while notching a >50% hard hit rate during his round. True middle of the order potential and ability to add extra strength yet.
Defensively: The shortstop featured solid movements during defense, working positively down through the baseball at the fielding window. Used an occasional glove tap, releasing from a clean exchange with some arm talent through H ¾ (82 mph arm, accurate). Able to stick on the left side moving forward with ability to drop down and make plays on the run as well.
Pitching: RHP - Good pace to the delivery with strike-throwing traits and heavy action into the zone on an 81-84 mph FB (1803rpms AVG, 53% zone rate via Trackman). Added a gradual 71-73 mph CB that was of the “get me over” variety (small 11/5 tilt) and then mixed a tough 72-74 mph CH that tunneled at 1774rpms out of same FB arm-speed.
2/06/21
Physical: Athletic, durable 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame with recent added muscle. Imposing mound presence with above-average efficiency on the bump.
Pitching: RHP - Worked from the left side of the rubber with a slow pace to the delivery but everything was connected, traditional high leg lift with slight hip coil at the top of the stack, good backside push out towards the plate and finished with intent out in front (H ¾ release). The FB played down in the zone from 82-84 mph flashing 1871 RPM average spin and up to 11.8 inches of HM. Mixed in a two-plane curveball that he can change spin on at times (-9.6 inch IVB, 9.6 inches HM) appearing as the out pitch. Dropped in advanced feel for a 75-77 mph CH with near identical release heights to the FB (4.32 feet / 4.31). Has the chance to be deceptive as well as high strikeout down the line if he adds velocity, which could be very intriguing.
6/15/20
Physical: Lean, athletic 6-foot-1, 160-pounds with room for more.
Pitching: Sets up in the middle of the rubber and uses simple, rhythmic motions throughout his delivery. The simplicity of the delivery allows him to repeat consistently. Shows a loose arm throwing out of a ¾ arm slot
Fastball: Shows some arm side run while topping out at 81.
Curveball: Good speed differential keeping this 12-6 breaker in the 66-69 range.
Changeup: Shows late depth and arm side run
11/02/19
5-foot-11, 155-pound freshman sat 77-79, topping at 80 mph out of a 3/4 arm slot with hip coil to his delivery. Curveball at 62-65 showed some depth with 11/5 rotation. Changup at 69-71 was thrown at near fastball arm speed. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing from a high elbow load with a lift-and-replace stride. Lower half glide in stride phase leads to some length in swing. Displayed a feel for the baseball and a middle of the field approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 84 mph and ran a 7.44 60-yard dash. Showcased developing defensive skills with active feet and accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. Freshman showed advancement across the board since we last saw him eight months ago and will be a prospect to follow in this class.
3/24/19
5-foot-9, 135-pound primary pitcher sat 73-75 from a 3/4 arm slot with a hip coil delivery. Fastball is relatively flat, but shows good life through the zone. Also showed a feel for his curveball with 11/5 rotation at 58-61 and a changeup at fastball arm speed which sat 60-63. The switch hitter showed similar swings from both sides of the plate starting square and using a leg-hang stride to begin. Showed a flat barrel path through the zone with a feel for the barrel. Registered a bat exit velocity of 79 mph and ran a 7.59 60-yard dash. Displayed capable defensive actions with accurate 69 mph arm strength across the diamond.
