'24 3B/RHP Kross Howarth (Mathacton/Tulane Commit) was the big winner of the day during the PA Shockers Scout Day. Howarth continued to show off his tools at the plate, in the field, and on the mound. At the plate, Howarth touted a 96 MPH max exit velo paired with a 63% hard hit rate. The long, lean RHH likes to get his hands extended over the plate to cover the outer half. Howarth, although with a wiry frame, did have some strength added this preseason. Howarth is reaping the benefits of his added strength in all facets of the game, including on the defensive side. From the outfield, Howarth makes clean movements to the ball and throws from a low 3/4 slot. The slot may induce some ASR on his throws from the OF in a game like setting; but nonetheless, Kross posted a 91 MPH outfield velocity. While being able to pull down lower 90's from the outfield, it would get any future college coach excited to know that he has that kind of velo in his arm. On the bump, Howarth was 87-89 T90 MPH. Howarth delivers from a low/normal 3/4 slot, but has late acceleration into release which gives him the velo his is so able to produce. There were times when he wasn't getting fully extended on the CB, which led it to leak arm side. When he is on time with late acceleration on the CB, it is sharp and short with some sweeping action to the bottom of the zone. The CH also could use some polishing up as he struggled to land it to his glove side. When Howarth cleans up the off-speed pitches, he will be an upper 80's-low 90's arm with 2 exceptional off-speed pitches in his arsenal.
