Top Performer Spotlight: '23 RHP/SS Jake Schultz (Downingtown East)
April 19, 2022 Zach Guth Assistant Scouting Director, NY/PA
Top PErformer Report
Schultz is a 2023 primary RHP that stands in a 6-foot, 170lb frame that is actually quite deceiving for the numbers he is able to post on the bump. Schultz works repeatable mechanics down the mound with easy tempo to his entire delivery. The RHP is able to put himself in some athletic positions down the mound into his front foot strike, allowing him to be whippy and generate good separation. Schultz has a FB that gets up to 89 MPH and has up to a 2395 RPM spin rate. This spin rate is among the highest in Jake's class and could possibly set him up to have an elite FB that has ride to it. The FB is slightly deceptive as Jake is fairly low effort down the mound and into release so it makes the already jumpy fastball even more jumpy. Schultz also is able to mix in a CB and CH combo with the ability to plate both pitches. Schultz can throw the CH to his arm side with ease and drop the tall, up and down CB in for strikes pretty routinely. Schultz is a high level arm with much more left in the tank as he continues to grow. Jake should immediately impact whatever program that he decides will be his home at the next level.
