With the completion of the Fall College Prospect Program the outdoor portion of the Prep Baseball Report event schedule came to a close in September. With the Elite Prospect Showcase on November 7 set to kick off the indoor portion of the schedule we now look back on some of the top performances of the fall. Today we take a look at the top outfield performances at a fall PBR event.

2016 OF/RHP Cole Horew (Chartiers Valley, PA)

Cole Horew is a 6-foot, 165-pound uncommitted senior that stood out as the top two-way prospect in attendance at the Western PA Fall Review. The right-handed hitter ran a 7.00 60-yard dash, flashed 84 mph arm strength from the outfield and showcased an 87 mph bat exit velocity. Horew starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a short, leg-lift stride. He demonstrated above average feel for the barrel and excellent plate recognition. Horew went 5-for-6 with two doubles and an inside-the-park home run in game action.

Horew has long levers and a quick arm on the mound. Hitters had difficulty picking up the ball as a result of Horew's hip coil delivery and the fact that he breaks his hands during his side-rocker step. He sat 83-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot, topping at 86 mph. Horew also flashed a 74 mph curveball with slider action. He worked two innings allowing one run on one hit while registering two strikeouts. Horew is ranked No. 154 in the PA Class of 2016.

 

2016 LHP/OF Jared Shawver (Logan, WV)

Logan Shawver is a 6-foot, 155-pound uncommitted senior with two-way abilities. The primary pitcher is a left-handed hitter that starts from a square stance. Shawver initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride and demonstrated a short swing with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph at the WV Top Prospect Games in August. He went 2-for-6 in game action and showcased athletic actions defensively with 80 mph arm strength. Shawver projects as a corner outfielder with his foot speed (7.70 60-yard dash).

Shawver flashed his two-way abilities at a pair of PBR events in August and September sitting 77-79 from a 3/4 arm slot during two innings of work on the mound. He put together a solid junior season at the plate hitting .291 with 10 RBI for the Wildcats.
