Super 60 Spotlight: '23 OF Chase Krewson

Ted Williams
VP Scouting/Content

Though the Keystone State sent one position player to the Super 60, we were well represented with a standout performance from '23 OF Chase Krewson (South Fayette). A mainstay on the Vizual Edge leaderboards, the Duke recruit placed 2nd in "Divergence," or "the ability to locate objects at a distance, crucial to early pitch/spin recognition" and was the leader in "Recognition," or "quick response time for plate discipline skills."

Offensively, the physical lefty showed up with added strength and according to Vice President of Scouting Shooter Hunt: "It was very noticeable." Krewson was top-10 in AVG bat-speed (75.3 mph) and repeatedly squared the baseball through a balanced, gap-to-gap approach. Exit-velocities eclipsed the 100mph mark with wood while an 81% hard-hit rate shows just how efficient the contact was.

A blurb from yesterday's national article on this upside look: "OF Chase Krewson (South Fayette HS, PA; Duke) steadily put together one of the day’s best overall performances. While he measured fast bat speed at 75.3 mph on average, he also generated the most rotational acceleration of the event (25.9g avg.) and recorded some of the best on-plane scores of the Super 60. Krewson also ran a 6.83 – 1.63 at the 10-yard split – and he averaged an exit speed of 94.7 mph, which was among the highest of the left-handed hitters."

Likewise, the corner outfielder played light on his feet with lateral quickness and displayed a loose 93 mph arm-strength from his position. An earlier 6.83 60-yard dash only adds to the intrigue with the size and power to be an immediate contributor at the next level.

Super 60 report

2/05/23
Physical: Strong, muscular 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame with athleticism throughout. 6.83 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Offensively: LHH. Wide, taller stance that keeps the barrel pointed upright over the backside. Utilized a short leg-lift to initiate the swing through a lower, mostly vertical path into the hitting zone with lift at the finish. Delivered a confident, impactful round on the barrel towards the middle of the field. Worked up to a T100 mph exit velocity with wood, averaging 95 mph per batted ball. Hit multiple high-end measurables (393 ft distance, 79 mph bat-speed, 26 mph hand-speed) while staying under control (92% on-plane, 81% hard hit rate).
Defensively: The primary outfielder featured a hop in the prep-step, gaining pace through the touch. Rounded footwork with some range in either direction laterally and reached back for a live 93 mph throwing arm out of an accurate H 3/4 slot. Moved well for size.
