OF Matt Gormley (Bishop Guilfoyle) led the Marauders in nearly every offensive category as a junior. The solidly built, 6-foot-1, 230-pound outfielder displayed his abilities recently at the Shenandoah Valley College Prospect Showcase. The right-handed hitter showcased an 81 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to drive the baseball to both gaps during a solid round of batting practice from a slightly open stance. Gormley also showed athletic actions in the outfield with straight line carry on throws of 77 mph to home plate.
Gormley returned to baseball after having concentrated on football earlier in his high school career and is just beginning the process of looking at schools and developing a plan for college. Based on his success during his return to baseball this past spring and his size, Gormley is likely to draw attention over the next 8-10 months as he prepares for his final year of high school baseball.
