September 2, 2012
The Pittsburgh Stealers, coached by former Duquesne University baseball coach Mike Wilson, and Baseball 19 University, coached by Dave Kirilloff hooked up in a nine inning scout game at Slippery Rock University today. The two fall showcase teams will continue a two game, two day series tomorrow with a second nine inning game at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA.
Following are some notes on players who stood out today:
Dan Toner (Gateway HS), ranked No. 50 in the Class of 2013
Toner demonstrated a strong arm and quick hands at shortstop. He made the defensive play of the day when he made a diving backhand stop in the hole and made a strong throw across the infield to end the second inning. Toner will be participating in the Pennsylvania Top Prospect Games in October.
James Meeker (North Allegheny), Class of 2013
The 6-foot-4, 175-pound third baseman displays good actions defensively with a strong arm. The left handed hitter also showed well offensively. Meeker has room to add to his frame, but has the potential to be a middle of the order bat at the next level.
Phil Madonna (Vincentian Academy), ranked No. 39 in the Class of 2014
Madonna showed very well behind the plate defensively. He demonstrated advanced receiving and blocking skills during his stint behind the plate. The 5-foot-7, 150-pound catcher was also a tough out on the day, finding his way on base three times. Madonna showcased his baserunning abilities swiping two bases.
Zack Bahm (Mt. Lebanon), Class of 2014
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound RHP had a solid three innings on the mound topping at 85mph with his fastball. Bahm showcased solid mechanics, with a free and easy delivery that gives the impression that there is more velocity on the way. He also demonstrated command of a 70mph curveball and a 75mph change.
Dave Boehme (Seton LaSalle), Class of 2014
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Boehme is a solid looking athlete with projectable size. With his size and solid offensive skills, Boehme is a prospect to watch in this class.
Don McWreath (Trinity), Class of 2013
A day following quarterbacking his Trinity HS football team, McWreath threw two effective innings with a fastball that touched 84mph. McWreath also showed a feel for a 72mph curveball.
Alex Kirilloff (Cheswick Christian Academy), Class of 2016
Kirilloff showcased an advanced approach at the plate for a player his age. The left handed hitter consistently squared the baseball and showed signs of power potential on a ball driven to deep center field. Kirilloff will be a player to watch in the Class of 2016. Kirilloff will participate in the Pennsylvania Underclass Top Prospect Games later this month.
Adam Bleday (Titusville), ranked No. 5 in the Class of 2013
