SCOUTING REPORT
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound RHP/OF displayed a lot to like in an advanced frame with present athleticism and physicality. The RHH showcased a loud round of batting practice creating easy lift to the pull-side gap while recording a noticeable 91 mph bat-exit velocity. Not to outdo himself, the RHP featured a fastball on the mound that runs up to 79 mph out of a fluid, high ¾ arm-slot showing natural downhill action with athleticism and quickness in the arm swing. Horton showcased the ability to patrol the outfield using a quick first step and loose, athletic actions (6.85 60-yard dash) to gain quality reads, starting the conversation about being a legitimate two-way prospect at the next level.
THOUGHTS ON THE FUTURE
"With so much time before he steps onto a college campus, Horton should continue honing skills that are already advanced for his age. By staying flexible while maintaining a solid strength program, the primary right-handed pitcher should only get better, and with improved feel for spin on the curveball, the righty could be an interesting follow on the mound. There is a lot to like with the changeup as it gets occasional late arm-side fade, and a greater separation between fastball and changeup velocity will invite more strikeouts in the future. Overall, the freshman showcased a solid floor for his age with a chance to explode in the coming years."
PLAYER COMPARISON
*Many times coaches will ask our staff "Who does he remind you of?" Player "comps" are a popular tool in the scouting/recruiting world and we have decided to add that niche to our feature articles.
