2018 PBR Future Games - Team Pennsylvania
6/12/18 - 5-foot-10, 170-pound left-handed hitter is currently ranked No. 44 in the PA Class of 2020 and will be participating as a member of Team Pennsylvania this August in the 2018 PBR Future Games in Indiana. Popa took one of the top rounds of batting practice at the event and carried that into game play going 6-for-7 over the course of two games. The lefty showed advanced feel for his barrel lining hits to all fields while nearly beating out a infield single in the lone at bat where he was retired. Currently nursing a hamstring, Popa did not run the 60-yard dash but has run a 6.90 at past events. The primary outfielder showcased 83 mph arm strength during defensive evaluations, an 86 mph bat exit velocity and worked three scoreless innings on the mound.
1/28/18 - 5-foot-10, 170-pound left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a toe-tap stride. Hands work very well through contact and displayed an ability to drive both gaps with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Ran a 6.92 60-yard dash. Left-hander sat 75-78 from a 3/4 arm slot with a balanced, fluid delivery. Curveball shows biting 1/7 rotation at 66-68 and changeup is thrown with good sell and some sink at 69-70.
7/18/17 - 5-foot-10, 165-pound left-handed hitter displayed an advanced feel for the barrel and an ability to hit the ball where it is pitched both in batting practice and in game action. Went 3-for-6 with a double in game action and registered a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Showcased fluid actions defensively with good routes to the baseball and current 78 mph arm strength from the outfield. The lefty sat 72-74 from a 3/4 arm slot on the mound with run and sink to his fastball. His curveball displayed 1/7 rotation at 63-64 while his changeup showed action similar to his fastball at 67-68. Worked two innings allowing three hits while recording four ground ball outs. Did not run the 60-yard dash due to a current hamstring injury.
