Scouting Report

8.16.18 - 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a knee-to-knee stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a flat barrel path through the zone and the ability to drive the right-center field gap. Went 2-for-6 with a triple and a walk in game action while driving in four runs in the opening game of the tournament. Registered an 85 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 6.91 60-yard dash. Displayed athletic actions defensively with solid routes to the baseball and accurate 76 mph arm strength to home plate.

6/20/18 - Defensively, takes direct routes and is decisive in reads. Routinely gets behind ball, plays through and stays in line on throws. Attacks ball on ground with soft glove hand and appropriate technique. Actions are athletic and quick twitch skills are evident in running of event best 6.75 60-yard dash. Registered arm strength of 79 MPH.

Offensively, initiates swing from open set up striding to neutral without gaining ground. Weight shift is aggressive with substantial separation achieved in working away from hands. Hands are tight. Hip turn is passive and there is limited backside release. Considerable length is present. Baldensperger would benefit from loosening of hands allowing knob to work toward catcher in load as well as utilizing a more aggressive hip turn. A bat exit velocity of 83 mph was registered.

6/20/17 - 5-11 160-pound right-handed hitter initiates swing with lift and replace stride.  There was some difficulty being on time on this day.  Lower half sway creating an uphill swing path was present. Baldensperger is an above average athlete as evidenced by his 6.94 sixty time. Athleticism should allow necessary mechanical swing changes including more aggressive hip turn.

Speed and athleticism play in OF. Baldensperger would benefit from staying in line and following his throws.
