Pick 6: Uncommitted 2024 Follows
January 20, 2022
The preseason is in full gear, and players are already showcasing their gains from the winter. As the spring approaches, On the Hunt takes a look at some uncommitted underclassmen to circle as future follows.
Peyton Jackson RHP / 1B / Boyd county, KY / 2024Jackson was one of the younger players at the PBR Future Games in July where he showcased solid stuff to go along with a projectable frame. However, the quick advancements seen throughout the fall, especially at the PBR Kentucky “Border Battle” against Tennessee, are likely to have his name circled by many recruiters as one to get out and see next spring. Imposing on the mound at 6-foot-3, 219-pounds, the frame is still maturing although broad shoulders and a barrel chest are present with thicker strength throughout the upper and lower halves. Up above 89 mph (89.1 per Trackman) with 2515 RPM max, Jackson’s quick, whippy arm promises even more velocity to come in the future. He delivers out of a near ¾ slot creating some ride and run through the zone with the fastball, and shows some late effort out front while getting quality extension. The aptitude for spin is present, and Jackson demonstrates an ability to throw quality breaking balls for strikes, and at his best, rips off tighter sliders that tunnel (somewhat) the fastball. But more than the present look at the breaking ball, the upside potential of it developing into an out-pitch is what will excite potential recruiters. Overall, the big right-hander has plenty to offer, and as he becomes more comfortable with the movement patterns of his big frame, look for Jackson to make another jump in the near future.
