Pennsylvania Class of 2019: Plenty of Talent Remains Uncommitted
November 14, 2018
The 2018 National Letter of Intent early signing period begins today and runs for the next week. While an abundance of seniors across the state will be making things official there are still plenty of uncommitted prospects available for college programs still having needs.
Following is a quick look at a handful of uncommitted prospects that have made an impression at a fall PBR event.
Owen Christy OF / C / Stroudsburg, PA / 2019Rankings StateRank: 38 / POS: 7
10.28.18 - 5-foot-11, 175-pounder was committed to Pittsburgh, but reopened his recruiting process as of last night. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing from a square stance with a lift-and-replace stride. A pull oriented swing shows considerable lift and an intent to create backspin. Registered a bat exit velocity of 82 mph while swinging wood. Showcased athletic defensive actions while routinely playing through the baseball. Displayed above average straight line carry on throws of 88 mph during defensive evaluations. Ran a 6.85 laser timed 60-yard dash. |
Trey Obarowski 2B / OF / Council Rock South, PA / 2019Rankings StateRank: 122 / POS: 2
9/15/18 - 5-foot-9, 160-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a handsy swing with above average feel for the barrel during a solid round of batting practice. Showed the ability to barrel the baseball to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Carried the same swing into game action where he put together two barreled base hits. 7.52 runner is a sound defender with a quick release. Obarowski showed the ability to play through the baseball while making throws from multiple arm angles. |
Ben Myers OF / RHP / Cumberland Valley, PA / 2019Rankings StateRank: 207 / POS: 33
9/15/18 - 6-foot-1, 165-pound uncommitted senior ran the top 60-yard dash of the day at 6.77. Previously ran a 6.62 at a PBR event in 2017. Left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a leg-hang stride to initiate his swing. Barrel path is flat, with some length in the zone leading to hard contact to all fields in batting practice. Registered a 93 mph bat exit velocity this summer at the Western PA Top Prospect Games. Athleticism and foot speed will allow coaches to play Myers all over the outfield at the next level. 87 mph arm strength transfers to the mound where he sat 80-83 during an inning of work in game action. |
Troy Emert RHP / SS / Rockwood Area, PA / 2019Rankings StateRank: 213 / POS: 60
9/15/18 Defensively, as middle infielder shows confident hands, soft hands while working bottom up and out front. Transfer is clean and quick. Feet are active in creating optimal angles and hops. Consistently works through the ball and demonstrates solid range. Offensively, 5-foot-9 180 pound, right handed hitter initiates swing from neutral set up with short controlled stride to neutral. Weight shift is passive followed by an aggressive hip turn. Bat path is slightly steep into the zone. Emert consistently barreled ball during am impressive round of BP. He registered a bat exit velocity of 87 mph and blasted a long triple into the left centerfield gap during game play. On the mound, the right-hander works out of a high 3/4 arm slot. FB sat 78-81 while being intermittently cut to glove side. Curveball at 65-67 mph was not as tight on this day as previously seen while having 11/5 shape. Slider at 69-70 mph has short, late break with limited tilt. Delivery is moderate effort and repeatable. |
