PBR Limited Series Review: Top Outfield Prospects

Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

The inaugural PBR Limited Series tournament took place June 28-30 with eight teams participating in a round robin format over the course of three days at McGill Field on the campus of Lebanon Valley College. The field was comprised of four 15U teams and four 16U teams hailing from three states.

Today we conclude a review of the teams in attendance with a look at some of the top outfield prospects over the course of the three days.

Vince Fattore OF / William Penn Charter, PA / 2022

5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter showcased premium bat speed and athleticism in all his actions. His foot speed was on display on a stand up triple with a 4.52 turn at first base. Fattore was later robbed of extra bases on a drive that was caught at the 385 foot sign. The 6.70 runner swiped a pair of bags on the weekend and showcased fluid actions defensively with the ability to man all three outfield positions. Shortly after the conclusion of the event he announced a commitment to Duke.

Braedon Karpathios LHP / OF / Lampeter-Strasburg, PA / 2021

5-foot-11, 170-pound Coastal Carolina commit was the top prospect on the mound over the course of three days, but also showcased the two-way skill set that made him a highly recruitable prospect. Defensively, Karpathios glides to baseballs in the outfield with fluid, easy actions. He also showed the capability to pick it with good footwork around the bag at first base. The left-handed hitter comes off a big year offensively in high school and should get opportunities to do both in college.

Caleb Sturtevant OF / Cocalico, PA / 2022

5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter is a 6.63 runner and his fast-twitch actions were on full display all weekend. He flashed athleticism in the outfield with advanced arm strength and swiped a number of bases in game action. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-7 with a double while reaching base four times by walk on the weekend. Sturtevant was added to the Team Pennsylvania roster for the PBR Future Games following his performance.

Maxwell McGrady OF / RHP / Central Bucks East, PA / 2022

6-foot-1, 195-pound left-handed hitter creates above average barrel whip with a solid lower half and a flat barrel path through the zone. He gets to extension regularly and made consistent hard contact all weekend. A 6-for-10 tournament  included a double and five RBI and was capped with a long two-run home run to right field in his final game. Definitely one of the top left-handed bats in this class.

Charlie Evans OF / Pennsbury, PA / 2022

5-foot-9, 150-pound underclassman was the most impressive defender among all outfielders at the event. A natural center fielder despite his average foot speed, Evans gets excellent reads on the ball and covers a large amount of territory in the outfield. He is especially adept at putting his head down and running to the spot on balls over his head and in the gaps. The right-handed hitter has all the tools to be a top of the order stick at the next level. Evans went 3-for-8 with a double and five runs scored over the course of three games. He also walked once and twice was hit by a pitch giving him an on base percentage of .545 for the weekend.

Nik Rubendall OF / RHP / Pope John Paul II, PA / 2022

6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitter does not get cheated at the plate. Rubendall sits on his back side and uses a strong hip turn to create advanced barrel whip. He went 1-for-6 with a walk over the course of three games, but the potential to be a run producing middle of the order bat at the next level is evident. Rubendall moves well defensively and his above average arm strength was evident on the mound where he topped at 83 mph.

Quintin Reep

quintin reepOF / Bellefonte Area, PA / 2020

5-foot-10, 185-pound right-handed hitter proved to be a tough out all weekend hitting in the middle of the Appalachian Aces order. Reep went 2-for-6 with a walk, a sac fly and two RBI over the course of three games. He also barreled several balls for outs in a productive tournament. Reep has a mature frame with the potential for some gap power at the next level.

Wyatt Marshall OF / RHP / Liberty, PA / 2021

5-foot-10, 160-pound left-handed hitter went 4-for-5 with a pair of walks and three runs scored on the weekend. Add in an at bat where he was hit by a pitch and Marshall reached safely in seven of his eight plate appearances. The three hole hitter also scored three times and flashed his foot speed on a bunt single. Marshall showcased athletic actions defensively and sat 80-81 off the mound.

Brody Mckenzie

brody mckenzieRHP / OF / St. Augustine Prep, NJ / 2021

6-foot-2, 150-pound primary pitcher sat 82-84 on the bump, but also impressed as a position player. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-6 with four RBI and two runs scored over three games. The long, lanky prospect also barreled a number of balls for outs during the course of the weekend.

Luis Correa OF / Lancaster Catholic , PA / 2021

5-foot-5, 120-pound left-handed hitter has above average barrel awareness and a flat bat path that allows him to find his barrel routinely in game action. Went 3-for-6 while also being hit by a pitch in seven official plate appearances over three games. Average runner is an above average base runner and covers plenty of ground in the outfield with good reads and solid routes to the ball.

Ayden Dodge

ayden dodgeOF / eastern regional, nj / 2021

5-foot-7, 120-pound left-handed hitter gets a lot out of his frame. He gets into the hitting zone early and stays in the zone for an extended period of time while utilizing all fields well. Routinely barreled the baseball all weekend going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a walk. Also lined out hard to left field in one of two plate appearances that he didn't reach base.
