PA/WV Summer Superlatives: Top Two-Way Performances at a PBR Event

With the completion of the Pennsylvania Travel Baseball Championships the summer schedule of events in Pennsylvania and West Virginia have drawn to a close. In preparation for the start of the fall schedule of events that begin in September we now look back on some of the top performances of the summer.

Today we conclude by taking a look at the top two-way performances of the summer at a PBR event in Pennsylvania or West Virginia.


#1  Dillon Marsh, 2018, LHP/OF, Lancaster Catholic (PA)

6-foot-2, 210-pound two-way prospect who stood out for Team PA at the PBR Future Games. Worked three scoreless innings out of a high 3/4 arm slot on the weekend. Sat 84-86 while working both sides of the plate with solid tempo to his delivery. Also mixed a changeup with advanced feel at 78 mph and an improving curveball with 1/7 rotation at 73 mph.


Also displayed present power from his left-handed swing (99 mph bat exit) with a tripled to the center field wall. Moves well around the bag at first base and runs well enough to handle corner outfield duties as well (7.19 laser timed 60-yard dash).


#2  John Servello, 2017, OF/RHP, Hollidaysburg Area (PA)

6-foot, 195-pounder stood out physically at the Western PA Top Prospect Games with impressive measurables across the board. Ran a 6.88 60-yard dash, showcaed 93 mph arm strength from the outfield and flashed a 96 mph bat exit velocity. Over the course of two games the right-handed hitter went 4-for-6 at the plate with two doubles. Servello barreled the baseball in all six at bats including a line drive that nearly took the pitcher's glove off for one of his outs.

A year ago Servello displayed his power arm in raw form in a brief performance on the mound at the West Virginia Top Prospect Games. He has since refined those skills showing a more fluid, balanced delivery while sitting 85-88 from a high 3/4 arm slot. Servello worked a 1-2-3 inning topping at 89 mph and flashed a solid 11/5 breaking curveball at 72 mph to give him a secondary pitch with promise.

Servello committed to Buffalo later in the summer.

#3  Travis Perry, 2018, RHP/1B, Rocky Grove (PA)

6-foot-7, 200-pound primary pitcher sat 83-85 while topping at 87 mph from a high 3/4 arm slot as a member of Team Pennsylvania at the PBR Future Games in August. Perry gets downhill well and showed solid command of four pitches during three scoreless innings of work. He has an advanced feel for his changeup with a developing curveball/slider breaking ball combo. Perry allowed one hit while striking out four. The junior is athletic for his size (7.30 60-yard dash) and showed some present power from his right-handed swing (93 mph bat exit velocity) while leaving the park frequently during three rounds of batting practice at the event.

#4  Colin Macko, 2018, 1B/RHP, Crestwood (PA)

Macko shined as a two-way prospect at a pair of invitation only PBR events this summer. The long-limbed, 6-foot-4, 180-pound sophomore is a left-handed hitter with a fluid swing and hands that work well through contact. While he is still maturing into his frame, Macko shows some present power and above average barrel whip (90 mph bat exit velocity). He went 3-10 with one double and one triple at the PA Travel Baseball Championships. He displayed a solid across-the-board skill set defensively and topped at 82 mph off the mound from a high three-quarter slot with an arm that shows some looseness. He also featured a solid 11/5 curveball at 67-70.

#5  Hudson Novak, 2017, OF/RHP, Laurel Highlands (PA)

6-foot-3, 195-pound stood out with a well-rounded skill set at the Western PA Top Prospect Games. Primary outfielder showcased athletic actions and accurate 87 mph arm strength from the outfield. Displayed solid routes to the baseball and ran a 7.15 60-yard dash. Right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance with a high hands load. Generates 87 mph bat exit velocity with fluid swing mechanics and flashed gap-to-gap pop in his bat. Went 4-for-6 in game action over the course of two games.

On the mound, he sat 81-83 from a high-3/4 arm slot during three innings of work allowing just one run. Also showed solid command of a 71 mph curveball with two-plane 11/5 rotation and a 66 mph changeup thrown at fastball arm speed. Registered four strikeouts while allowing just two hits.
