PA/WV Summer Superlatives: Top Infielder Performances at a PBR Event

With the completion of the Pennsylvania Travel Baseball Championships the summer schedule of events in Pennsylvania and West Virginia have drawn to a close. In preparation for the start of the fall schedule of events that begin in September we now look back on some of the top performances of the summer.

Today we continue by taking a look at the top infielder performances of the summer at a PBR event in Pennsylvania or West Virginia.


#1  Thomas Caufield, 2018, West Chester Henderson (PA)

6-foot-1, 165-pound athlete with long levers and plenty of quick twitch actions was a standout performer for Team PA at the PBR Future Games. Stood out defensively all weekend with fluid actions, advanced range and plenty of arm strength (84 mph with quick release and in rhythm). Ranged into shallow right field to take away a potential single while playing second base and was part of three double plays over three games. Ran a 6.76 60-yard dash and ran multiple sub-4.30 home-to-1B times. Displays foul line to foul line offensive abilities with a simple swing and a feel for the barrel. Committed to North Carolina within weeks after the event.


#2  Michael Turconi, 2018, Blackhawk (PA)

At the Western PA Top Prospect Games, the 5-foot-10, 165-pound left-handed hitter impressed in batting practice with advanced barrel whip and a direct swing path allowing him to drive baseballs to all fields. Starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing with a bat exit velocity of 89 mph. Advanced, fluid defensive actions with active feet, a soft glove hand and big arm strength (89 mph). Ran a 6.84 60-yard dash and went 2-for-3 with two triples in game action on game two of the event. Committed to Wake Forest later in the summer.

#3  Justin Williams, 2018, Cumberland Valley (PA)

6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitter took one of the top rounds of batting practice for Team PA at the PBR Future Games, flashing a balanced, simple approach with present power (97 mph bat exit velocity). Williams hit a long foul ball in game one that cleared the left field wall by some 30 feet and went 2-for-2 in game two action on the final day of the event. Flashed solid feet and a soft glove hand defensively with accurate 82 mph arm strength across the diamond.

#4  Kyler Fedko, 2018, Vincentian Academy (PA)

Fedko continued a whirlwind summer of high level events in which he has consistently stood out in all facets of the game. Fedko's foot speed (6.85 60-yard dash) and easy actions in everything he does were evident all weekend at the PA Travel Baseball Championships. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior made all the routine plays at shortstop while making several highlight reel plays as well. Offensively the right-handed hitter went 5-for-10 with three doubles, one triple, seven RBI, a walk, two runs scored and five stolen bases on the weekend.

#5  Justin Wright, 2018, Hempfield Area (PA)

Yet another member of Team PA at the PBR Future Games, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitter swung the bat as well as any player on the roster, barreling baseballs routinely while registering two hits and a walk. Flashed an impressive across the board skill set on evaluation day with a 92 mph bat exit velocity while running a 7.06 60-yard dash. Third baseman made every routine play over the span of three games and tossed in a couple of backhand gems with solid carry on throws from behind the bag to put an exclamation point on his defensive performance. Announced his commitment to St. John's shortly after the event.

HEADLINES
