PA Top Prospect Games: Outfield Analysis

The summer rush of PBR events in Pennsylvania and West Virginia kicked into high gear over the past two weeks with the PA Top Prospect Games (June 17-18), Shenandoah Valley College Prospect Showcase (June 23) and the PA Underclass Games (June 24-25) offering college coaches a glimpse at some 175 prospects in a short period of time.

Over the course of the past week we have been analyzing the prospects that performed by position. Today we take a look at the outfielders that participated in the PA Top Prospect Games.

Joe Lancellotti

OF/RHP Joe Lancellotti (Archbishop Wood)

Lancellotti has a solid 5-foot-10, 190-pound frame and is athletic in everything he does on the field. At the plate the right-handed hitter showed fluid rhythm to his swing and a 95 mph bat exit velocity. Lancellotti was named the MVP of the White Team. He went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a sacrifice fly and two RBI. Lancellotti flashed his two-way abilities by moving to the mound for an inning on Day Two where he sat 86-88 out of a high 3/4 arm slot while topping at 89 mph. With a 7.01 60-yard dash and an 88 mph arm from the outfield, Lancellotti could play all three OF spots at the next level.

Shortly after the completion of the event the initial PA Class of 2017 rankings were released. Lancellotti sits in the No. 1 spot with fellow Top Propsect Games participant Shane Muntz at No. 3.

OF Parker Abate (Malvern Prep), 2015

Abate has the ability to affect the game with his foot speed every day. The 5-foot-7, 145-pound right-handed hitter is adept at bunting and showcased a 6.86 60-yard dash. Abate starts from a square stance and displayed a short swing path wearing out the middle of the field in batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Abate showcased good jumps, and precise routes to the baseball defensively with an 83 mph throwing arm.

OF/RHP Tom Albertson (La Salle), 2015

Albertson is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter that 2-for-6 in game play from a square stance. The uncommitted senior displayed a direct path to the baseball and a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. Albertson ran a 7.28 60-yard dash and sat 77-79 from a high 3/4 arm slot during his three innings of work on the mound.

OF/RHP Jordan Art (Lakeland), 2017

Art is a 5-foot-11, 145-pound right-handed hitter that swings from a slightly open stance. He showed good rhythm to his swing and the ability to barrel the baseball routinely during BP with a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. Art worked two effective innings on the mound sitting in the low 70s from a 3/4 arm slot while also commanding a 70 mph curveball. Art displayed good feet with a 7.28 60-yard dash and solid mechanics defensively in the outfield with a 75 mph throwing arm.

OF/RHP Raven Beeman (Somerset), 2015

Beeman is a physical 5-foot-11, 190-pound prospect with a big upside. The right-handed hitter registered a 90 mph bat exit velocity hitting from a square stance with a high hands load. Beeman went 3-for-7 in game play and showed the ability to use the middle of the field routinely. The uncommitted senior turned in an event best 6.61 60-yard dash while showcasing an 87 mph arm from the outfield. Beeman also sat 77-80 off the mound from a high 3/4 arm slot.

OF Chris Common (Penn Trafford), 2015

Common is a solidly built 6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed hitter that displayed good rhythm to his swing from a slightly open stance. The lefty uses a high hands load and a short path to the baseball to create a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. Common ran a 7.35 60-yard dash and showcased an 84 mph arm from the outfield while going 2-for-7 at the plate during game action.

OF Eric Duran (Pine-Richland), 2015

Duran excelled in all facets of the game over two days. The physical 6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitter showed legitimate pop from a square stance during his round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 90 mph. Duran ran a 6.77 60-yard dash and displayed athletic actions in the outfield with an 84 mph arm. Although he went hitless in five trips to the plate during game play, Duran squared two baseballs for hard line drive outs.

OF/RHP Maxx Harpalani (Pine-Richland), 2017

Harpalani went 1-for-3 in game play on Day Two of the event with a double. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter barreled the baseball routinely out of a slightly open stance during batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Harpalani ran a 7.53 60, flashed an 82 mph arm from the outfield and worked an inning on the mound sitting 74-76. The sophomore to be has an athletic frame and has continued to show forward progress in all his skills since we first saw him two years ago.

OF Scott Kuczala (Wyomissing), 2015

Kuczala went 2-for-6 with a double during game play with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter displayed a bat waggle load from a square stance and the ability to barrel the baseball to all fields during batting practice. Kuczala ran a 6.94 60-yard dash and showcased an 85 mph arm in the outfield. The uncommitted junior showed athletic actions and precise routes to the baseball defensively.

OF/RHP Jeremy Marshall (Cocalico), 2015

Marshall is an athletic 6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitter that starts from an open stance and strides closed. He displayed an 83 mph bat exit velocity and consistently barreled the baseball in game play. Marshall showcased an 86 mph arm from the outfield and ran a 7.01 60-yard dash. The righty sat 75-76 with cut action to his fastball in an inning of work on the mound.

OF Isaac Neal (Parkland), 2016

Neal impressed in all facets of the game going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and running a 6.91 60-yard dash. He generates a bat exit velocity of 87 mph utilizing quick hands and a strong upper body. If he learns to incorporate his lower half he will become an even more effective hitter. The 6-foot, 175-pound righty sat 81-83 for a brief stint on the mound prior to departing after being hit with a line drive. Neal showcased a strong arm (86 mph) and athletic actions defensively in the outfield.

OF Drew Newcomb (Lewisburg Area), 2015

Newcomb is a 6-foot, 170-pound prospect that showcased a well-rounded skill set. The right-handed hitter displayed a 79 mph bat exit velocity hitting from a square stance. Newcomb 3-for-6 with a double and a triple in game action over two days. He showed athletic actions in the outfield with an 81 mph arm and ran a 6.73 60-yard dash.

OF Nick Newman (Cardinal O'Hara), 2015

Newman is a physical 6-foot-1, 200-pound right-handed hitter that hits from a square stance with an impressive 97 mph bat exit velocity. The uncommitted senior ran a 7.41 60-yard dash and showcased a 75 mph arm from the outfield.

OF Chandler Palyas (Cannon-McMillan), 2015

Palyas displayed a fluid swing and flat swing path that enabled him to use all fields in a solid round of batting practice from a slightly open stance. The left-handed hitter had a number of quality at bats in game play and registered a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. Palyas is a prototypical center fielder that gets good reads on the baseball and covers plenty of territory. The uncommitted senior ran a 6.97 60-yard dash and showed a 78 mph arm from the outfield.

OF/RHP Cole Reese (Greensburg-Central Catholic), 2015

Reese had a very solid event at the plate going 3-for-6 with a triple. The left-handed hitter hits from a slightly open stance and displayed the ability to go the opposite way with some authority. The 6-foot, 185-pounder ran a 6.78 60-yard dash, registered an 80 mph bat exit velocity and showcased an 82 mph arm from the outfield. Reese also sat 76-78 on the mound during two innings of work in game play.

OF/RHP Jake Sniegocki (McDowell), 2016

Sniegocki is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-handed hitter that that showcased an 86 mph bat exit velocity from a square stance. He utilizes a lift and replace stride foot with a strong lower half to create barrel whip and the ball jumps off his bat when barreled. Sniegocki went 3-for-6 in game play and ran a 6.95 60-yard dash. The righty sat 76-77 on the mound and showcased an 83 mph arm from the outfield.

OF/RHP Corey Thomas (Carlisle), 2016

Thomas is a 5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitter that hits from a square stance with a compact swing. He showcased an 81 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to square the baseball frequently during his round of batting practice. Thomas ran a 7.41 60-yard dash and sat 80-81 from a high 3/4 arm slot off the mound.

OF/RHP Michael VanLenten (Somerset), 2015

VanLenten hits from a square stance and strides closed with a quiet load to produce a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-handed hitter went 3-for-5 with a walk in game action over two days. VanLenten ran a 7.45 60-yard dash and showcased an 85 mph arm from the outfield. The righty sat 82-84 with a hip coil delivery out of a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound. VanLenten also flashed a 74 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation.

OF Reid Werth (Butler Area), 2015

Werth is a 5-foot-11, 150-pound left-handed hitter that displayed good tempo and good extension to his swing from a high hands load. He went 3-for-6 with two doubles in game play while displaying a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. Werth ran a 7.05 60-yard dash and showed athletic actions in the outfield with an 80 mph arm.

OF/RHP Gabe Witmer (Twin Valley), 2015

Witmer missed day one of the event, but made up for lost time by banging out two hits in game play on day two. The 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitter showcased an 85 mph arm from the outfield and the ability to glide to the baseball. The 6.95 runner gets excellent reads on the baseball and will be a quality defender at the next level. Witmer worked one solid inning on the hill sitting 78-80 with command of a 65 mph curveball.

OF Andrew Zban (Huntington, WV), 2015

Zban impressed in every facet of the game over two days. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed hitter showed athletic actions in the outfield with good feet (6.97 60-yard dash) and the top OF arm at the event (91 mph). Zban made a number of solid plays defensively during the two games his team played including a catch he made in foul territory in the bullpen in right field. The left-handed hitter showcased a fluid swing and an 88 mph bat exit velocity while going 2-for-6 in game action.
