PA Top Prospect Games: Analyzing the Corner Infielders

The summer rush of PBR events in Pennsylvania and West Virginia kicked into high gear over the past 10 days with the PA Top Prospect Games (June 17-18), Shenandoah Valley College Prospect Showcase (June 23) and the PA Underclass Games (June 24-25) offering college coaches a glimpse at some 175 prospects in a short period of time.

Over the course of the coming week we will analyze the prospects that performed by position. Today we take a look at the corner infielders that participated in the PA Top Prospect Games.

Tommy Baggett3B/1B Tommy Baggett (Loyalsock Township), 2015

Baggett made the trip to the Top Prospect Games shortly after helping to lead Loyalsock Township to a 2nd consecutive Class AA state title. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitter utilized a slightly open stance and strong lower half to create a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Baggett, a 2013 member of Team PA at the PBR Future Games, has shown his greatest strides defensively in the past year. The physical corner displayed good feet (7.44 60-yard dash) and improved range with an 81 mph arm across the diamond. Baggett has shown the ability to be a quality defender at both corner positions at the next level.

Kevin Barron3B/1B/RHP Kevin Barron (Hatboro-Horsham), 2015

Barron is an athlete that has demonstrated the ability to play multiple defensive positions at a high level. He shows good feet (7.18 60-yard dash) for a prospect his size, 6-foot-4, 195-pounds. His 81 mph arm across the diamond and glove work at both corner positions make him a versatile recruit. Barron has also demonstrated the ability to play both corner outfield positions and he sat 81-82 from a high 3/4 arm slot during two innings of work on the mound. The physical righty also commanded a 67 mph curveball with 11/5 breaking action. Barron hits from an open stance and incorporates a strong lower half to create an 88 mph bat exit velocity.

Connor Hood3B Connor Hood (Susquehanna), 2016

Hood showcased the skill set that currently has him ranked No. 11 in the PA Class of 2016. The 6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitter topped all corner infielders with a 6.91 60-yard dash. He showcased fluid actions at 3B with good range and the ability to make plays on the move with an 85 mph arm across the diamond. The right-handed hitter displayed a balanced swing from a square stance with a high hands load. Hood displayed an 88 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to drive the baseball with regularity during his round of batting practice. The junior went 1-for-6 with a double off an upper 80s fastball in game play.

Dante Parente3B/1B Dante Parente (Blackhawk), 2015

Parente is a 6-foot, 185-pound uncommitted senior that appears to be equally comfortable at either corner infield position. Parente is fluid at 3B and demonstrated solid footwork with the ability to make throws from several arm angles at 74 mph across the diamond. The left-handed hitter shows excellent rhythm to his swing with very loose hands and an ability to drive baseballs to all fields. He went 1-for-3 in game action in the only game he attended during the event, driving an opposite field double. Parente also barreled the baseball in his other two at bats on the day.

Eric Petroski3B/RHP Eric Petroski (Father Judge), 2015

Petroski showcased a big arm (88 mph) across the diamond and on the mound sitting 84-88 from a high 3/4 arm slot. The 6-foot, 185-pound uncommitted senior has a physical frame and very quick hands at the plate (94 mph bat exit velocity). The right-hander hits from a square stance with a lift and replace stride foot. He went 1-for-5 in game play with a double over two days of game action. Petroski ran a solid 7.09 60-yard dash and showed good feet at 3B with the ability to play the baseball on the move.

3B Kyle Glouner (Upper Dauphin), 2016

Glouner displayed the ability to barrel the baseball routinely from a square stance with lift and replace stride foot. The right-handed hitter registered an 84 mph bat exit velocity and flashed some gap power with a triple during game play. Glouner showcased his two-way abilities sitting 77-79 from a high 3/4 arm slot while also commanding a 66 mph curveball and a 72 mph changeup. The 6-foot, 175-pound junior worked three solid innings in game play.

1B/3B Dillon Good (Ephrata), 2016

Good is a 6-foot, 200-pound corner infielder that displayed capable glove work and a 72 mph arm across the diamond from 1B. The right-handed hitter utilized a square stance and a lift and replace stride foot to produce a bat exit velocity of 87 mph. The junior displayed the ability allow the baseball to get deep in the zone while barreling the baseball routinely during his round of batting practice.

1B Seth Holler (Latrobe), 2015

Holler has a physical 6-foot-2, 210-pound frame but moves extremely well for a prospect his size (7.19 60-yard dash). The uncommitted senior has a soft glove hand and moves well around the bag at 1B with a 76 mph arm across the diamond. Holler uses a leg lift load from the right side of the plate with an 87 mph bat exit velocity. He has shown legitimate power potential and the baseball jumps off his bat head when he is in rhythm and on time with his stride foot.

1B Ryan Horvath (Parkland), 2015

Horvath is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound right-handed hitter that showed the ability to barrel the baseball consistently in game play with a bat exit velocity of 87 mph. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound uncommitted senior hits from a square stance with good balance and rhythm to his swing. Horvath showed capable actions around the bag with an accurate 73 mph arm across the diamond.

1B/3B Dominic Mori (Hempfield Area), 2015

Mori is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitter that displayed a fluid swing with good balance out of a square stance. The uncommitted senior barreled the baseball routinely during batting practice, utilizing a strong lower half to produce a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. Mori demonstrated the ability to make all plays at 1B with an accurate 81 mph arm across the diamond.

1B Nick O'Shea (Springfield), 2015

O'Shea had a strong offensive showing going 3-for-4 in game play from the left side of the plate. The uncommitted senior has a quiet load from a square stance with a flat swing path that allows him to stay in the hitting zone for long periods of time. O'Shea barreled the baseball routinely during his round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. The lefty displayed a soft glove hand at 1B and showcased two-way abilities sitting 73-74 on the mound with cut action to his fastball and command of a 1/7 curveball at 64 mph.

3B Vince Ruggieri (North Hills), 2015

Ruggieri went 2-for-5 in game play over two days with a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. The left-handed hitter displayed the ability to use all fields and a balanced swing during a solid round of batting practice as well. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound uncommitted senior showed capable actions at 3B with throws of 76 mph across the diamond and ran a 7.25 60-yard dash.
