The PA Top Prospect Games were held at Metro Bank Park in Harrisburg, PA on October 6 and 7. Today we take a look at the prospects who participated as members of the Black Team.

                                 

Colin Gurt, 1B, Class of 2014, Palmyra HS
Gurt ran a 7.41 60-yard dash and showcased a 79mph bat exit speed. He has showed soft hands and good footwork at first base. Gurt had an RBI double and scored a run in Game #1.

Trent Sipes, 2B/SS, Class of 2014, Hollidaysburg HS
Sipes was one of the most talented defenders among the infielders at the event. The 5-foot-7, 135-pound 2B/SS showed soft hands, good range, and fluid actions in the middle infield. Sipes ran a 7.60 60-yard dash and displayed a 77mph bat exit speed. Offensively, Sipes showed the ability to be a consistent line drive hitter, using a short swing path to spray baseballs to all fields during his round of batting practice.

David Clay, C/1B, Class of 2014, Owen J. Roberts HS
Clay showcased well in all facets of the game. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound catcher had pop times of 2.15-2.25 on throws of 76mph from the crouch. Clay used an 82mph bat exit speed and a short, compact swing to drive baseballs to all fields consistently during his round of batting practice. He saved his best for game play where he went 4-for-4, with an RBI to take home MVP honors for the Black Team.

                                 

Jack Baer, C/OF, Class of 2014, Friends School of Baltimore (MD)
Baer was unable to participate in defensive activities due to a minor injury, but was able to hit during the course of the event. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound C/OF showcased a solid 84mph bat exit speed. Baer has projectable size and shows some power potential offensively.

Colin Gibbons-Fly, Class of 2013, Mercersburg Academy
Gibbons-Fly is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound SS/3B who is attending Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania. He graduated in 2012 from DeMatha Catholic in Baltimore, MD, and is completing a post-graduate year during the 2012-2013 school year. Gibbons-Fly ran an event best 6.88 60-yard dash, and showcased a solid 82mph bat exit speed. He is an athletic shortstop with good range and a strong arm (86mph).

Blaise McCarty, 3B/RHP, Class of 2013, Riverside HS
McCarty is a 6-foot, 175-pound prospect who is likely to be the No. 1 starter for Riverside in 2013, trying to help his team win a third consecutive Pennsylvania AA State Championship. McCarty has the makings of a two-way player at the next level. He topped out at 84mph from the mound with a 73mph curveball. McCarty ran a 7.28 60-yard dash and showcased an 82mph bat exit speed.

Jordan Ely, 1B/RHP, Class of 2014, Northeastern HS
Ely showcased good feet and soft hands around first base. The 5-foot-11, 155-pound 1B/RHP ran a 7.50 60-yard dash and turned in a 72mph bat exit speed. Ely had a double in the 7th inning of Game #1 and worked a scoreless inning on the mound. The RHP topped out at 76mph out of a high 3/4 arm slot with a 64mph 11/5 breaking curveball. 

Zach Newmyer, 3B/RHP, Class of 2014, Red Land HS
Newmyer showed good hands and range at 3B with throws of 77mph across the infield. He used a solid 83mph bat exit speed to square the baseball consistently during his round of batting practice. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound RHP worked a scoreless inning in Game #1 topping out at 79mph from a 3/4 arm slot. Newmyer gets good arm side run with his long, fluid delivery and throws a 68mph changeup at near fastball arm speed. As Newmyer develops physically he should see continued gains in velocity.

Robert Gerofsky, OF/RHP, Class of 2013, Warwick HS
Gerofsky had good carry on throws of 79mph from his outfield position. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound, left-handed hitter impressed with an 85mph bat exit speed and an excellent round of batting practice. Gerofsky showcased legitimate power to the pull side, hitting out of an open stance with a strong lower half.

Zach Sheranko, LHP/1B, Class of 2013, Pocono Mountain East HS
Sheranko is a 6-foot, 205-pound LHP with some upside. The lefty sits 81-83 with his fastball, but could easily see a spike in velocity with a few minor adjustments. Sheranko throws from and over the top arm slot and gets good rotation on his 68mph curveball. His 74mph changeup is thrown at near fastball arm speed and shows good arm side run.
