Holiday Showcase Spotlight: 2022 Catcher Aaron Posey

The Holiday Showcase on December 28th at Keystone State Baseball Academy will wrap up the event schedule for 2019 in Pennsylvania. As we draw closer to the end of October we will be periodically highlighting some of the prospects scheduled to participate. Today we begin our preview with a look at 2022 catcher Aaron Posey.

6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from a wide, slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showed a flat barrel path through the hitting zone and an ability to use all fields. Registered a bat exit velocity of 88 mph and ran a 7.54 60-yard dash. Showcased 71 mph arm strength out of the crouch with a top pop time of 2.15. Athletic, projectable frame with room to add strength. Player to watch in this class.

Defensively, as catcher flashes soft, confident glove hand in receiving and framing. Presents soft, square wall in blocking with excellent range and athleticism for size and age. Feet are in sync with clean quick, transfer and arm action in recording pop time of 2.21 on throw of 70 mph out of the crouch.
Defensively, at third base funnels bottom up and out front with soft, quick glove hand. Feet are active to and through the baseball while follow throw of 68 mph across the diamond.
Offensively, 6-foot-180 pound, right-handed hitter initiates swing from slightly open set up with short stride to neutral. Separation is solid. Weight shift and hip turn are aggressive. Bat is swung with intent and path allows it to spend extended time in the zone. Posey turned in a solid round of bp flashing ability to use all fields. A bat exit velocity of 86 mph was registered. Overall, Posey reconfirmed his previous evaluation as a follow in the class of 2022.

Defensively, behind the dish flashes solid flexibility in providing a low, wide target. Glove hand is quiet and confident in receiving and framing. Presents soft wall, good trunk angle and considerable range in blocking. Recorded 2.15 pop time on throw of 66 mph.
Defensively, at third base works bottom up and out front. Feet and hands work well. Transfer is clean with high arm slot on throws consistent with primary position of catcher.
Offensively, 6-foot 180 pound, right-handed hitter initiates swing from open set up with short, controlled stride to neutral. Separation is adequate. Swing is connected with short, direct path to the baseball. Weight shift and hip turn are aggressive. Bat path is flat with barrel feel demonstrated in consistent squaring of baseball. A bat exit velocity of 84 mph was recorded. Overall, Posey projects as a definite follow in the class of 2022.
