A scheduled tripleheader of WPIAL baseball playoff action at Washington & Jefferson University was cut short by lightning during the final game of the evening. Following is a look at the action that did take place.

west allegheny 5, Laurel Highlands 3

Colin ClausJunior RHP Colin Claus (right) went the distance, registering nine strikeouts while yielding two earned runs. The Indians jumped on Laurel Highlands pitcher Colin McKee for three runs in the 1st inning and never looked back. To McKee's credit, he shook off the 1st inning and battled through a complete game effort giving his team a chance to win.

West Allegheny was led offensively by Brandon Pouch who went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Ted Sova (3-for-4, 2B, 3B, 2RBI) was a HR short of the cycle for Laurel Highlands.

our lady of the sacred heart 11, monessen 4

Monessen committed four errors and OLSH made them pay for each one. Freshman 1B Kiefer Bishop (3-for-5, two doubles, five RBI) had a key three-run double with two outs in the top of the 3rd inning that seemed to ignite the OLSH offense. Junior RHP Santino Platt picked up the win on the mound going five innings and allowing four runs on five hits with five walks allowed.

Monessen answered OLSH with three runs of their own in the bottom of the 3rd inning to send the game to the 4th knotted at three. The Greyhounds managed just a single run in the 5th inning following that outburst however. Shortstop Josh Kucmeroski went 3-for-4 in a losing effort for the Greyhounds.

West Mifflin 2, South Fayette 0 (Suspended in 2nd inning)

The final game of the evening was over nearly as quickly as it began. Junior RHP Zach Salmon sat the South Fayette offense down in order in the 1st and 2nd innings with two strikeouts. Sandwiched between the Titans plated two runs in their trip to the plate in the bottom of the 1st inning. Lightning appeared prior to the bottom of the 2nd inning starting that forced a suspension of the game with the completion scheduled for today at a site and time to be announced.

The Titans offense wasted little time getting on the board in the bottom of the 1st inning. Ryan Kandsberger led off with a double and scored on a triple by Zach Fodor. Fodor scored later in the inning when Dan Howard registered the third extra base hit of the inning, a double to the gap in left field.
