Finishing up our Previews of Team Mid-Atlantic, we take a look at the rest of the roster.
John Dempsey 3B Georgetown Prep (MD) 2018
3.5.16 - Sound actions in the field and takes a confident and quick first step with soft hands. Showed impressive awareness in game. Hits from an open setup at the plate. Gets to a strong position with a short swing and quick bat speed. Like his approach and plan at plate. Strong lower half and solid frame. Dempsey's greatest asset might be his ability to slow the game down while playing at a high level.
Will Glock RHP/SS Loyola Blakefield (MD) 2018
6.21.16 – Athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds. Shows two-way potential with projection in the 2018 class. Loose athletic arm action. Glides downhill with regular effort throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Creates quick arm speed. Could get better low half involvement. Fastball has slight sink to the pitch up to 84 mph. Breaking ball has short and hard action. Changeup has slight fade to the pitch.
Kevin Madden SS/3B St. Pauls (MD) 2018
7.15.16 - Athletic frame at 6-foot, 175-pounds. Very interesting left side of the infield prospect that is a two-sport athlete (QB, football). Has a quick and confident first step, plays aggressive and confident in field. Throws have carry across the infield and are accurate. Hits from a slightly open set up at the plate, shows bat speed and a shorter level swing path. Ran a 6.95 60-yard dash.
Bennett Nance LHP Morehead HS (NC) 2018
Nance has a thin, wiry frame at 6-foot-1, 165 pounds and a short, strong arm action into a high-3/4 slot. His fastball may touch 85 but the separator for Nance is his slider. Sitting 76-79, the slider is a developing out-pitch with late bite and tilt that has produced swing and miss from right-handed and left-handed hitters. Pitching for the NCBA Golden Spikes program and head coach Scott Bankhead, Nance has some feel for game control and a delivery that is repeat-able and will hold up over time.
Austin Primm RHP/1B North Gaston (NC) 2018
At 6-foot-5, 235 pounds, Primm is a presence from the outset. The arm has been up to 87 and as he continues to grow into his body the velocity will stabilize to be more consistent from outing to outing. Typically working 82-85, the jump could be coming quickly. A good athlete, Primm is being closely watched as he enters the Future Games and works towards his fall with Team Rawlings.
Luke Rettig LHP Wilmington Christian (DE) 2018
Rettig has a projectable frame with length at 6-foot-2, 160-pounds. There is plenty of room to fill out the frame and he looks to have his best years in front of him on the mound. Has a sound, quick arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Gets late life on his fastball that has been up to 83 mph. Has a later breaking slider in the 70-72 range with short 1-7 action on the pitch. Change up is still a work in progress but has shown nice feel for the pitch at 73 mph.
Joe Seidler RHP/1B Chesapeake HS (MD)
6.3.16 - 2018 RHP/1B Joe Seidler has a projectable and sturdy 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame with room to add more. Pitches from the stretch only. High 3/4 arm angle, shorter arm action, simple delivery, pitches with regular effort, and creates fast arm speed at release. Pitched 83-86 in the first inning topping out at 87 mph. Fastball has late arm side run and some sink. Breaking ball has 11/5 action on the pitch. Showed gradual break early and got better as the game progressed with tighter action and shape. Moves around the mound well and athletic that makes throws from different angles. Does show potential as a two-way player.
