Fall Program: Week Two Catcher Analysis

The 2nd Annual Fall College Prospect Program moved to La Roche College for Week Two action on September 14. The fall format involves two nine inning games and a showcase at each of three stops over the course of the month of September. Today we begin our analysis of the prospects in attendance during Week Two of the program by taking a look at the catchers in attendance.

2014 Fall College prospect Program (Week Two ): Catcher analysis
2017 C/1B Chasen Claus (West Allegheny)
Claus displayed pop times of 2.25-2.35 on throws of 70 mph from the crouch. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound sophomore, a starter at 1B as a freshman, also displays capable defensive actions around the bag at 1B. Claus started from a square stance offensively and utilized a flat swing path with no stride to consistently barrel the baseball during his round of batting practice. The right-handed hitter showcased a bat exit velocity of 70 mph and showed an ability to use all fields with regularity.
2017 C/RHP Michael Haley (Franklin Regional)
Haley was solid at the plate for the 2nd weekend in a row going 2-for-6 in game action. The 6-foot, 195-pound left-handed hitter continued to display a line drive approach with the ability to utilize the entire field. Haley showcased pop times of 2.25-2.31 on throws of 71 mph from the crouch.
2016 C/1B John Medich (Quaker Valley)
Medich showcased pop times of 2.09-2.17 on throws of 78 mph from the crouch. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound junior displayed an athletic set up and sound catch and receive skills. Medich went 2-for-6 in game action while flashing a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. The right-handed hitter displayed a short swing path and the ability to stay inside the baseball from a square stance during batting practice. He barreled the baseball routinely during batting practice and showed the ability to utilize all fields. Medich registered a 7.49 60-yard dash.
2016 C/3B Andrew Pikna (Oil City)
Pikna went 3-for-8 in game action while showcasing a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift and replace stride to create rhythm. Pikna showed good extension to his swing and the ability to square the baseball to all fields during his round of batting practice. The 5-foot-7, 205-pound junior displayed pop times of 2.11-2.19 on throws of 70 mph from the crouch. Pikna also displayed capable actions at 3B with an accurate 73 mph arm across the diamond.
2015 C/OF Aaron Simone (Christina Brothers Academy, NY)
Simone is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound uncommitted senior that showcased pop times of 2.23-2.31 on throws of 73 mph from the crouch. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-4 in game action while flashing a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Simone starts from a square stance with a high hands load and uses a leg lift stride to produce barrel whip. He displayed a flat bat path through the zone and the ability to drive the baseball to all fields during his round of batting practice. Simone ran a 7.74 60-yard dash.
