The 2nd Annual Fall College Prospect Program came to a close on September 28 with a final stop at Widener University. The fall format involved two nine inning games and a showcase at each of three stops over the course of the month of September. Today we begin our analysis of the prospects in attendance during Week Three of the program by taking a look at the catchers in attendance.

Top Prospects

Greg Grandelli, 3B/RHP, Roman Catholic HS, PA (2016)

Grandelli showcased a 78 mph bat exit velocity from an open stance with a leg lift stride starting from a high hands load. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-5 with a double during game action with a flat barrel path through the hitting zone. Grandelli displayed an accurate 79 mph arm across the diamond and topped at 81 mph during three scoreless inning of work on the mound. The 6-foot, 185-pound righty also commanded a 74 mph change up at fastball arm speed and a 60 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation.

Blake Rapoport, 3B/2B, Wissahickon HS, PA (2016)

Rapoport showcased a well-rounded skill set running a 6.99 60-yard dash and flashing solid defensive skills. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior displayed a soft glove hand along with the ability to make throws from multiple arm angles. Rapoport hits from a slightly open stance with a balanced, fluid swing. He displayed quick hands and the ability to barrel the baseball routinely during batting practice with a 79 mph bat exit velocity.

Tom Aaron, 3B, Perkiomen School, PA (2015)

Aaron showcased an accurate 74 mph arm across the diamond and the ability to play through the baseball. The 6-foot, 200-pound unsigned senior ran a 7.40 60-yard dash and flashed an 85 mph bat exit velocity. Aaron barreled the baseball routinely during batting practice from a square stance with a lift and replace stride. Aaron used a high hands load and a physical lower half to create good barrel whip while going 1-for-3 in Game Two action.

Matt Briner,  1B/LHP, Penncrest HS, PA (2015)

Briner showcased a soft glove hand and solid footwork around the first base bag. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound unsigned senior barreled the baseball routinely from a square stance with a lift and replace stride. The lefty impressed on the mound topping at 76 mph with command of a three pitch mix. Briner utilized a 64 mph curveball with 1/7 rotation and a 68 mph changeup to go along with his fastball with arm side run. He worked three scoreless innings, allowing one hit with five strikeouts.

Matthew Cody, 3B/1B, Mechanicsburg HS, PA (2016)

Cody squared the baseball routinely from a square stance with a flat barrel path during batting practice. The right-handed hitter displayed a 77 mph bat exit velocity and some gap power potential. Cody showcased an accurate arm across the diamond with developing range and arm strength.

Hunter Goshorn, 1B, Boiling Springs HS, PA (2016)

Goshorn is a 6-foot-2, 165-pound left-handed hitter that starts from a slightly open stance. The junior utilized a fluid swing with a lift and replace stride to create a 78 mph bat exit velocity. Goshorn displayed capable actions around the bag at first base with an accurate 67 mph arm across the diamond. He barreled the baseball in several at bats over the course of game action while showing the ability to use all fields.

Brad Quinter, 3B/2B, West Springfield HS, VA (2015)

Quinter is an unsigned senior that flashed an 82 mph bat exit velocity from the left side of the plate. The 5-foot-8, 185-pound Virginia prospect took a very solid round of batting practice using a low hands load and a strong lower half that resulted in consistent hard contact. Quinter displayed an accurate arm across the diamond and ran a 7.64 60-yard dash.
