Elite Prospect Showcase: Middle Infield Analysis

The Elite Prospect Showcase took place on October 26th at Keystone State Baseball Academy giving our staff a final look this fall at some of the top prospects in Pennsylvania. Today we conclude a series of articles analyzing the prospects in attendance with a look at those players that participated as primary middle infielders.

Middle Infield Analysis

Brayden D'Amico, Liberty HS, SS, 2021
5-foot-10, 150-pound switch-hitter showcased similar swings from both sides of the plate with slightly more pop from the left side. He starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride. A line drive approach from both sides of the plate with feel was evident. Registered a bat exit velocity of 80 mph and ran a 7.16 60-yard dash. Sound defender with solid feet and range. Showcased accurate 81 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Marcus Danchision, MMI Prep HS, SS/RHP, 2021
6-foot-2, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a short, lift-and-replace stride to begin. Showcased a feel for the barrel with a line drive approach. Registered a bat exit velocity of 89 mph and ran a 6.83 60-yard dash. Displayed capable defensive actions at shortstop with 80 mph arm strength across the diamond. Physical frame still has room for added strength and a move to third base or to the outfield to utilize his foot speed would not be surprising. The righty sat 81-83 from a high 3/4 arm slot while leading with a low elbow. Arm action is short and quick. Curveball sat 73-75 with short, 11/5 break and changeup was thrown with good sell at 72-73.

Garrett Greco, Belle Vernon Area HS, SS, 2021
5-foot-11, 148-pound left-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short, leg-hang stride. Sits on his back side well and routinely creates backspin. Registered a bat exit velocity of 83 mph and ran a 6.82 60-yard dash. Fundamentally sound defender with active feet and a soft glove hand. Showcased accurate 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. Well rounded prospect that will continue to make strides with strength gains and physical maturity.

Chase Hoffman, Milton Area HS, 2B, 2021
5-foot-8, 150-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a short leg-hang stride to start his swing from a deep load position. Showcased balance throughout with a handsy, line drive approach while creating backspin on the inner half. Registered a bat exit velocity of 81 mph and ran a 7.45 60-yard dash. Showed fundamentally sound actions defensively with a quick release and accurate 79 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Jake Keenan, Downingtown East HS, SS, 2021
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a leg lift stride to initiate his swing from a high back elbow load. Showcased the ability to clear his lower half well and allow his hand to work through contact. Registered a bat exit velocity of 84 mph and ran a 7.10 60-yard dash. Showcased capable defensive actions with average feet and a quick release. Current 78 mph arm strength across the diamond will improve with work to play through the baseball more consistently.

Christian LaBarbera, Hempfield HS, SS/RHP, 2021
6-foot, 171-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a leg lift stride to initiate his swing from a high back elbow load. Showcased strength in his lower half and the ability to create some barrel whip. Failure to get completely off his back side limits an already above average 87 mph bat exit velocity. Ran a 7.16 60-yard dash and displayed capable defensive actions with 78 mph arm strength across the diamond. The righty sat 76-79 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some hip coil to his delivery off the mound. Fastball at times showed some cut action. Also showed a changeup with good sell at 66-71 and a slider at 64-67.

Alex Martin, Pennsbury HS, SS/RHP, 2021
6-foot, 157-pound right-handed hitter starts from a wide, square stance and utilizes a knee-to-knee stride to initiate his swing. There is some length in the swing but he gets to full extension routinely with above average barrel whip. Registered a bat exit velocity of 83 mph and ran a 6.89 60-yard dash. Showcased active feet while playing through the baseball routinely defensively with solid carry on throws of 84 mph across the diamond. The righty sat 81-83 off the mound out of a high 3/4 arm slot with hip coil to his balanced delivery. Commanded his fastball well while showing both 4 seam and 2 seam offerings. Curveball sat 68-70 with 11/5 rotation and two plane break at times. Changeup is thrown with good sell and some cut action at 75-76. Lanky, well-rounded two-way prospect is a definite follow in this class with room to add strength to his frame.

Sean Matson, Unionville HS, SS/RHP, 2021
6-foot-1, 195-pound switch hitter starts from and open right-handed stance and initiates his swing with a leg hang stride. An lengthy stride ends routinely in full extension with some present gap pop. Left handed swing is similar with more lift. Registered a bat exit velocity of 88 mph and ran a 7.39 60-yard dash. Showcased athletic actions defensively with solid carry on throws of 84 mph across the diamond. Current physical frame with room to add additional strength may lead to a move to third base. The righty sat 84-85 off the mound from an over the top arm slot. Curveball showed sweeping 11/5 break at 62-64 and slider displayed later, shorter break at 70-71. Changeup is thrown at near fastball arm speed with arm-side run at 66-69. Definite follow in this class with legitimate two-way abilities.

Xavier Taylor, Williamsport Area HS, SS, 2022
5-foot-11, 155-pound left-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a line drive approach with a feel for the barrel. Displayed a soft glove hand with a quick release defensively with accurate 76 mph arm strength across the diamond. Well rounded skill set should continue to develop with strength gains through physical maturity.

Charlie Yanoshik, La Salle HS, SS, 2020
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a deliberate leg hang stride to begin. Displayed balance throughout with hands that work well through contact leading to routine barrels and the ability to create some backspin. Registered a bat exit velocity of 93 mph and ran a 6.84 60-yard dash. Advanced defender showcased fluid actions with active feet and above average lateral range with solid carry on throws of 84 mph across the diamond.
