2017 EARLY COMMITS
Chris Burke, C, North Schuylkill HS
PBR Rank: #192 in PA Class of 2017
PBR Notes: Eastern PA Fall Review (Sep 13, 2015) 5-foot-8, 185-pound right-handed hitter. Started from slightly open, upright stance with his hands at mid-line. Drew hands back to load and minimized body movement during swing. Stays on top of the baseball with short path. Runs well for position (7.13 60-yard dash and 4.63 home-to-1B time on a turn) and has a bit of pop (86-mph exit velocity). Exhibited solid receiving and blocking skills with an accurate arm. Recorded workout pop times of 2.12-2.22 and arm strength of 74-mph from the crouch.
Carter Chasanov, 2B, Polytech HS (DE)
PBR Notes: 5-foot-11, 165-pound MIF with the foot speed to find time in the outfield as well. First team All-State selection as a junior. Left-handed hitter swiped 10 bases, drove in 22 runs, and batted .490 last season. Chasanov was a member of the Delaware Carpenter Cup team in 2016 where he played as an outfielder. He comes from strong baseball bloodlines with his father (an outfielder in the late 1980s and early 1990s) and older brother (currently a left-handed pitcher) both playing for the University of Delaware.
Brett Hardy, SS/RHP, Pleasant Valley HS
PBR Notes: 5-foot-11, 180-pound two-way prospect put together impressive numbers both ways as a junior. Hardy hit .349 with 14 RBI while striking out just six times on the season. On the bump, the righty worked 35 innings allowing 29 hits while striking out 26. Although he allowed 20 runs, only eight were of the earned variety for an ERA of 1.60.
Brock Kauffman, SS/3B, Garden Spot HS
PBR Rank: #42 in PA Class of 2017
PBR Notes: Eastern PA Top Prospect Games (July 19, 2016) 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitter went 2-for-6 with two triples in game action over two days. Starts from a slightly open stance with a high hands load and initiates his swing with a short heel-raise stride. Exhibited some present power with a 90 mph bat exit velocity. Very fundamentally sound infielder displays ability to play multiple infield positions at the next level with a soft glove hand, athletic feet and accurate 84 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Chase Nowak, RHP, Coughlin HS
PBR Rank: #87 in PA Class of 2017 Rankings
PBR Notes: Fall Showcase Tournament (Sept. 2015)
6-foot-2, 185-pounder who pitched out of an over-the-top slot with slightly closed landing. Clean arm action generated velocity on fastball (82-83, touching 84) fairly easily. Secondary stuff included a solid change-up at 74-75 and curveball at 73-74 with short, late, slider-like break.
Kyle Rogers, 1B, Hazleton Area HS (Lackawanna College)
PBR Rank: #286 in PA Class of 2015 rankings
PBR Notes: 2014 Preseason All-State Showcase (Feb 16, 2014) Rogers is a solidly built 6-foot, 195-pound prospect that registered a 4.20 home-to-1B time and displayed agility around the 1B bag. Rogers displayed accurate throws of 78 mph across the diamond. The right-handed hitter uses a leg lift stride and quick hands to generate a bat exit velocity of 88 mph. Rogers barreled the baseball consistently and the ball jumped off his bat to all fields.
Brainy Rojas, 2B/SS, Meyers HS
PBR Rank: #41 in PA Class of 2017
PBR Notes: 5-foot-11, 160-pound middle infielder with above average defensive abilities and big arm strength. Rojas has shown upper 80s velocity off the bump and runs well. Has shown the athleticism to see early playing time at the next level if his offense catches up. Will need to improve on .171 showing at the plate as a junior.
Logan Zavada, RHP, Wyoming Valley West HS (Lackawanna College)
PBR Notes: 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-hander began his college career at Bloomsburg going 2-0 with a 9.56 ERA as a freshman. Zavada made eight appearances and logged 16 innings while registering 13 strikeouts. He has transferred to Lackawanna College for his sophomore season.
