Conference Preview: Mountain Valley Conference

By Jacob Gill

Mountain Valley Conference

This spring will be the last scholastic sports season for the MVC as it is currently known. Beginning with the 2014-15 school year, the MVC will merge with the Lehigh Valley Conference to form a new, 18-team, as yet unnamed, league. Details have yet to be finalized and/or released regarding division alignment and scheduling, but the eighteen largest schools in District XI will soon be playing under the same banner.

  • 2013 regular-season champ Stroudsburg should be considered the favorite again with its top arms -- 6-foot-4 Nikorak (2013 MVC MVP) and 6-foot-2 DePerno -- back in tow. Along with the five players listed above, '14 C/1B P.J. Van Orman (East Stroudsburg) and '14 OF Bruce Breithaupt round out the seven returning starters for coach Phil Stokes.
  • CostaCosta (right), '14 C Jared Andino, '15 RHP Will Kazura, and '14 IF Will Quiles will lead East Stroudsburg North as coach Matt Suarez continues to develop the program.
  • Pleasant Valley coach Charles Inserra's roster was in need of a make-over after graduating six seniors, including his top three pitchers. Shepherding the inexperienced newcomers will be Shank, '14 RHP Christopher Burke, '15 OF LHP Nicholas Domenici, and '15 IF/RHP Travis Van Houten.
  • Pocono Mountain East graduated eight seniors, so coach Matt Loringer will turn to RHP Sensale and '14 OF/RHP Thomas Neuwiler to carry the pitching staff and lead the offense that lacks the power potential from last year.
