Conference Preview: District 9 Class A

With the start of the high school season getting started we have been previewing conferences around the state leading up to opening day. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each conference.

             district 9 Class A

Preseason Favorites

Elk County Catholic (19-4), Cranberry (15-4), Clarion (16-4) 

A three teams should push for a district title in 2014. Elk County Catholic lost five starters to graduation but brings back ace RHP Brandon Schlimm. Cranberry can counter with an ace of its own in LHP Dylan Cyphert. Clarion returns much of the roster that led them to a 16 win season a year ago.

 

Preseason Player of the Year

Cole PetersonCole Peterson, Johnsonburg HS (Class of 2014)

Peterson led Johnsonburg on a historic run to the 2013 Class A state title. The 5-foot-11, 145-pound senior has hit over .450 for his career and has over 270 strikeouts on the mound. The St. Bonaventure recruit sit in the mid-80s and can flirt with 90 mph when he needs a little extra. Peterson threw just the 6th shutout in PIAA state finals history last year.
