Class of 2024 Inside the Rankings: Helium Watch
January 11, 2022
Each week leading up to our Preseason slate, we'll be rolling out Inside the Rankings articles to further highlight the movement around the ‘24 classes in PA and NY. This week’s focus shifts the scope to “Helium Watch,” prospects with a chance to rise in the rankings.
2024 RHP TUCKER DELISLE (SPRINGSIDE CHESTNUT HILL)
The Spin: High-waisted and easily projectable at 6-foot-1, 178lbs, DeLisle gained significant traction off the heels of an electric bullpen session at the Inter-AC Scout Day in August (T85 mph, 6 ft. of extension). Fast-forwarding to this offseason, additional strength gains and timed-up explosive movements have taken his game to a new level, nailing down a 94 mph pulldown off of two-steps (via Twitter) while continuing to push the ceiling further upwards. Though he operates from a slow, methodical pace in the delivery, the fastball stays hidden for length and jumps out of the hand quickly (¾ slot), working on-top of hitters while creating spacing issues at the plate. A sudden, whippy release coupled with consistent leverage down the slope generates swing/miss in droves and plays effectively off of a well-spun mid-60’s SL for strikeouts (12.5 in. AVG HM). The combined natural funk, size, and ability to keep getting better should make the Springside Chestnut Hill product a must-see Northeast arm over the next couple years and a staple in the ‘24 class. The slot and arm-action are both shockingly reminiscent of ‘22 RHP Ryan Reich (Selinsgrove / Seton Hall) who showed some similar traits early during polishing.
The Performance: 8/31/21, Inter-AC Scout Day | Made his presence felt during bullpens, setting personal bests of a T85 mph FB, 2193rpms peak FB spin, 6 ft AVG extension (FB), 14 inches HM (SL) while pairing a strong offensive showing with a 90 mph exit, 48% sweet spot, and 25+ G’s of rotational acceleration.
Tons of length/flexibility from ‘24 RHP Tucker DeLisle (Springside Chestnut Hill). Lower slot, whippy release and firm FB to the middle of the strike zone. Good feel for SL that frisbee’d at times.
