Each week leading up to the new year, we will be rolling out “Inside the Rankings” articles to further highlight the movement around the ‘23 class in PA and NY. This week’s focus shifts the scope to the top uncommitted middle infielders, players that have garnered heavy interest over the past year and should be off the board sooner rather than later.
2023 SS anthony malagise (blackhawk)
The Spin: Strong and athletic in an efficient, proportional 5-foot-10, 180lb frame, Malagise put himself on notice with a scorching late-season offensive surge into the PIAA playoffs this past spring. The right-handed hitter showed off consistent, explosive actions in the middle of the order, collecting 5HR while leading the Cougars with 24RBI. Proven to have a flair for the dramatic in the late innings, Malagise added multiple go-ahead, clutch hits over the course of the season. Though the offense stands out first and foremost, the Blackhawk product has quietly gained extra range defensively with bursty actions to either side (6.84 runner), adding a quick-triggered 83 mph throwing arm that should keep him in the middle of the infield for good.
The Performance: 7/28/2021, PBR Future Games | The offensive round popped in front of the many scouts in attendance, including a T94 mph bat-exit velocity, 361 foot batted ball distance, and a T76 mph bat-speed, carrying positive momentum towards a plethora of quality at-bats in-game.
