Catcher Analysis: Week 5 of Fall College Prospect Program

C/OF Jack Baer, Friends School of Baltimore (MD), Class of 2014

Baer is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect that has been recovering from a sore shoulder this fall. He has shown pop times of 2.15-2.25 in the past on throws of 71 mph from the crouch. Baer has a projectable frame and has exhibited some pop in his bat. The right handed hitter went 1-for-5 in game action during the course of the weekend, squaring several baseballs for outs.

Ben BurmanC/3B Ben Burman, Episcopal Academy, Class of 2015

Burman showed well in all facets of the game, standing out as the top catching prospect on the weekend. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect showcased a rhythmic swing with an explosive lower half and the ability to drive the baseball. Burman displayed a bat exit velocity of 84 mph and the potential to be a quality hitter at the next level. Defensively, he showed pop times of 2.13-2.21 on throws of 74 mph out of the crouch.

C/3B Danny Blugis, Schuylkill Haven HS, Class of 2015

Blugis is a 5-foot-7, 155-pound prospect that has shown well behind the plate at several PBR events recently. He has quick feet, receives the ball well and has shown above average blocking skills. Blugis displayed pop times of 2.09-2.15 on throws of 73 mph from the crouch. The right-handed hitter has a simple approach to hitting with little wasted motion to his swing. Blugis displayed a bate exit velocity of 77 mph and went 3-for-6 in game action at DeSales University and Lehigh University.

C/OF Nick Jacoby, Shippensburg HS, Class of 2015 

Jacoby showcased pop times of 2.09-2.17 on throws of 74 mph from the crouch. The 6-foot, 150-pound prospect has the makings of a quality catcher with plenty of room to add to his frame. The right-handed hitter displayed a 75 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to barrel the baseball consistently during batting practice. Jacoby went 1-for-3 in game action at Lehigh University.

C/RHP Zach Murray, Baldwin HS, Class of 2014

Murray showcased pop times of 2.09-2.16 on throws of 75 mph from the crouch. He displayed good footwork and a clean release with the potential to be a solid catch and throw guy at the next level. The right-handed hitter displayed a short swing path and the ability to use all fields with a solid bat exit velocity of 87 mph.

C/OF Jake Pae, Susquehanna Township HS, Class of 2015

Pae is a 6-foot-2, 165-pound prospect that has room to add significantly to his frame. The right-handed hitter utilizes a short swing path from a high hands load to create a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. He went 1-for-4 in game action at DeSales University. Pae showcased pop times of 2.25-2.30 on throws of 74 mph from the crouch. As he continues to improve his footwork and transition his times will continue to drop.
