2023 PBR Pennsylvania Player of the Year

The PBR Pennsylvania staff is excited to announce that we've selected one athlete who has excelled amongst his peers and will receive this year's Prep Baseball Report Pennsylvania Player of the Year Award:
'23 RHP Blake Morningstar (Wyalusing Valley)
Recap: Morningstar, a tall and uber-athletic RHP from the Northern Tier League pitched the Rams (17-7) into the PIAA playoffs while holding down multiple top statistics. The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder was nearly unhittable versus right-handed batters, using a lightning fast 3/4 release with plus extension.
In 2023, Morningstar struck out 113 total in 61 innings against 12 walks, 24 hits, just 7 ER, a 0.80 ERA, and 0.59 WHIP. From (4/29 - 5/06) Morningstar tallied an absurd 29 punchouts across 15 IP with 3 hits allowed. His velocity maintained all season, peaking at a T96MPH midway through and bumping up again to 95MPH when we scouted him in early May; 10+ MLB scouts were in attendance. Over a year's time, the slider has developed into a true weapon, flashing well above-average with late, two-tier bite out of the zone, up to 82MPH. Relied on the pitch often when ahead in the count, able to manipulate cut/shape.

The senior has signed to play baseball at the Wake Forest University, but could very well hear his name called in the MLB draft, beginning on July 9.
