2018 Preseason All-State Showcase Analysis: Class of 2019 Two-way Players

94 prospects showcased their abilities over the two days of the 2018 Preseason All-State Showcase. Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at two-way players in the Class of 2019.

2019 Two-way Prospects (in alphabetical order)

Connor Bannias, 2019, 3B/RHP, Penn-Trafford
5-foot-10, 160-pound primary infielder showcased a well-rounded skill set. The right-handed hitter starts from slightly open stance and initiates his swing from a crouch with a lift-and-replace stride. Displayed a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Ran a 7.22 60-yard dash and and showcased active feel with accurate 79 mph arm strength across the diamond. Right-hander sat 78-80 from a high 3/4 arm slot with heavy fall to the first base line. Also displayed a curveball with 11/5 rotation at 65-67 and a knuckleball with tumbling action at 64-67.

Colin Brubaker, 2019, RHP/3B, Warwick
5-foot-9, 150-pound primary pitcher sat 77-79 from a balanced, deliberate delivery out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Arm swing is short in the back and long out front. Curveball showed 11/5 shape at 64-67 and changeup sat 68-70 at near fastball arm speed. Right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a leg-lift stride. Showed some glide in his lower half with a direct swing path and an ability to use all fields with a bat exit velocity of 75 mph. Ran a 7.25 60-yard dash and showcased accurate 75 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively from a 3/4 arm slot while routinely playing through the baseball.

Jaiden Cioffi, 2019, RHP/SS, St. John Neumann
6-foot-2, 180-pound primary pitcher sat 81-83 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some arm side run to his fastball. Athletic, projectable frame with a quick arm. Curveball had 12/6 rotation at 65-68 and changeup showed run and sink at 68-71. 
Right-handed hitter starts from a wide, square stance and utilizes a short, lift-and replace stride to initiate his swing. Displayed raw strength with a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. Ran a 7.28 60-yard dash and showcased developing defensive skills with 78 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Drew Iaia, 2019, OF/RHP, Avon Grove
6-foot, 175-pound primary outfielder displayed athletic actions defensively while playing through the baseball routinely with accurate 84 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with an abbreviated leg-hang stride. Showcased an aggressive hip turn and a feel for the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 87 mph. Right-hander sat 74-79 off the mound out of a high 3/4 arm slot on the mound. Curveball showed sharp 11/5 rotation at its best at 63-67 and changeup sat 65-67 at fastball arm speed. Finished well rounded day by running a 7.09 60-yard dash.

Ryan Kutz, 2019, RHP/1B, Lower Dauphin
6-foot-2, 205-pound primary pitcher made a big impression during his bullpen session sitting 86-88 out of a high 3/4 arm slot with arm side run to his fastball. Curveball sat 71-74 with short slider break and changeup sat 79-80 at fastball arm speed. With some work to become a bit more directional additional velocity is likely. Right-handed hitter starts from a narrow, square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-lift stride. Displayed an aggressive lower half and present power with a bat exit velocity of 92 mph. Showcased solid footwork around the bag at first base with accurate 82 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Tristin Lockett, 2019, RHP/OF, Mifflin County
6-foot, 170-pound primary pitcher sat 83-84 while topping at 86 mph from a high 3/4 arm slot. Two-seam fastball showed similar velocity with arm side run. Curveball showed tight 11/5 rotation with two-plane action at its best sitting 71-74. Changeup sat 73-74 at fastball arm speed and cutter at 76-77 displayed late cut. Delivery is balanced and repeatable with additional velocity likely as athletic frame continues to fill out. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Showcased a feel for the barrel with the ability to use all fields with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Flashed 86 mph arm strength from the outfield while playing through the baseball routinely.

Maclean Maund, 2019, LHP/1B, Penn-Trafford
6-foot-1, 165-pound two-way prospect sat 82-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a short takeaway and some length out front. Fastball showed some arm side run and balanced, repeatable delivery projects for additional velocity to come. Curveball shows average depth at 62-65 with 1/7 shape. Changeup is thrown with good sell at 64-68. 6.95 runner showed athletic actions around the bag at first base with accurate 82 mph arm strength across the diamond. Left-handed hitter starts from an open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Hands work well through contact leading to consistent line drives with a bat exit velocity of 87 mph.

Brendan O'Donnell, 2019, OF/RHP, Great Valley
6-foot-2, 190-pound two-way prospect turned in arguably the most well-rounded day of any player in attendance. The right-handed hitter turned heads with a loud round of batting practice and a 91 mph bat exit velocity. O'Donnell starts from a wide, square stance and initiates his swing with a heel raise stride. He creates above average barrel head speed with an aggressive lower half and quick hands. Displayed 90 mph arm strength from the outfield and ran a 6.89 60-yard dash. The right-hander completed an impressive day by sitting 81-84 on the mound from a high 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm while staying directional. Curveball sat 67-70 with 11/5 rotation and changeup sat 75-77 at near fastball arm speed.

Alex Weakland, 2019, RHP/3B, Dallastown Area
5-foot-10, 165-pound primary pitcher sat 80-82 from a high 3/4 arm slot with an easy, balanced delivery that is likely to yield velocity spikes in the near future. We have previously seen Weakland work at 83-85 routinely during the past 12 months. Curveball sat 68-70 with two plane depth and 10/4 shaped.
Changeup is an advanced pitch thrown with good sell at 75-77 with sink and arm side run. Right-handed hitter starts from a narrow, slightly open stance and initiates his swing with an abbreviated leg-hang stride. Displayed a direct swing path with a line-drive approach and a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 7.15 60-yard dash while showcasing athletic actions around the bag at third base with accurate 79 mph arm strength across the diamond.

Cole Whitton, 2019, RHP/3B, Perkiomen Valley
6-foot, 185-pound primary pitcher sat 77-79 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a balanced, repeatable delivery. Curveball sat 64-68 with 11/5 rotation and slider with shorter break sat 68-71. Also displayed a changeup at 64-68 at near fastball arm speed. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a short, lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Registered an 83 mph bat exit velocity and showcased a feel for the barrel while routinely barreling pitches to the middle of the diamond. Ran a much improved 7.43 60-yard dash and displayed developing defensive actions at third base with accurate 78 mph arm strength across the diamond.
