Of the 100 prospects to showcase their abilities over two days of the 2017 Preseason All-State Showcase 16 participated as corner infielders. Today we continue our analysis of the prospects in attendance by taking a look at the corner infielders in the Class of 2019.
Top Prospect
Nick Breznak, LHP/1B, Lancaster Catholic
6-foot-2, 175-pound two-way prospect has an athletic, projectable frame that is far from finished developing. Switch-hitter shows similar swing mechanics from both sides of the plate beginning from a square stance while utilizing a leg-lift stride to initiate his swing. Barreled baseballs with back spin from both sides with a 90 mph bat exit velocity. More complete swing from right side currently while he showed difficulties getting off his back leg in his left-hand swing. Ran a 7.46 60-yard dash and athletic actions defensively with 84 mph arm strength across the diamond from first base.
Other Participating 2019 Corner Infielders
Nathan Beimel, LHP/1B, St. Marys Area
Primary pitcher has added three inches and 10 pounds to his frame over the past 18 months. Left-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a low leg-lift stride. Showcased a high hands load and ability to stay behind baseball well while squaring baseballs to all fields during a solid round of batting practice. Registered an 84 mph bat exit velocity and showed a soft glove hand defensively with accurate 81 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Troy Emert, RHP/3B, Rockwood Area
5-foot-9, 170-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a leg-lift stride to initiate his swing. Wraps barrel in load leading to length in swing, but displayed ability to routinely find the barrel with a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. Primary pitcher ran a 7.38 60-yard dash and showcased active feet defensively with accurate 75 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Carter Heller, 3B, Faith Christian
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitter showcased across the board jumps in his game since we last saw him just three months ago. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a leg-lift stride to initiate his swing. Loads hands downward from a high-hands starting position and often races to get his foot down and hands to the hitting zone on time. Displayed and improved bat exit velocity of 82 mph and ran a 7.49 60-yard dash. Showcased improved footwork and more fluid actions defensively with 83 mph arm strength across the diamond.
Ryan Kutz, 1B, Lower Dauphin
6-foot-2, 205-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Aggressive hip turn leads to 92 mph bat exit velocity and some present power with an uphill path to the baseball. Better incorporation of legs would allow for additional pop. Moves well around the bag at first base and showcased accurate 72 mph arm strength across the diamond.
John McNamee, 1B, Holy Ghost Prep
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-lift stride. Barrel wrap in his load leads to length but created a bat exit velocity of 90 mph with some present power. Showcased capable actions around the bag at first base and accurate 75 mph arm strength across the diamond defensively.
Justin Resto, 1B, Cedar Cliff
6-foot-1, 205-pound right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and initiates his swing with a leg-hang stride from a deep load. Displayed a solid feel for the barrel and creates a bat exit velocity of 93 mph with an aggressive hip turn. Showcased some present power with an ability to backspin the baseball. Ran a 7.31 and showcased capable defensive actions around the bag at first base. Arm strength will need to improve moving forward (67 mph across the diamond).
