With 2016 coming to a close we will spend the final week of the year highlighting top performances from events over the course of our second year in the Old Line State. We have had positional breakdowns throughout last week, recapping the year for PBR Maryland. Today we finish with the top pitching performances from 2016.

Ryan Bywaters RHP Smithsburg 2017
Event: Top Prospect Games 
You could make a case that Bywaters is the 2017 grad with the highest ceiling as he has two way ability but seems to have plenty more left in his tank on the mound. He was 88 mph in his session at the University of Maryland with long arms and some athleticism. Bywaters should continue to develop and potentially could be one to keep an eye on in a few years.  

Brandon Cook RHP St. Mary's 2018
Event: Fall Underclass Invitational
Cook is a very interesting prospect as there is plenty more in his tank. The lanky athletic two way talent has shown the ability to ramp up the velocity, touching 89 throwing from the outfield and has been up to 87 before on the mound. At the Fall Underclass Invitational he topped out at 86. You could make a case that he is one of the higher ceiling players in Maryland's 2018 class.  

Cole Dunn RHP Middletown 2018
Event: PBR Future Games 
Dunn showed well at the Maryland Preseason ID and continued to show his potential at the Future Games. Dunn has that durable frame you want in a pitcher and again sows that the is more in his tank to continue to grow. Dunn was the first to make his commitment after the Future Games, making his pledge to Radford before the day was over with. 

Kieran Garner RHP River Hill 2017
Event: Maryland Preseason ID 
Garner again showed why he is one of the top arms in the state with this early performance at the Preseason ID. Garner got up to 92 mph on the mound and gave you a glimpse into the future. Garner still has plenty of development to complete and has more in his tank.  

Jordan Geber RHP Archbishop Spalding 2017
Event: Northeast Prospect ID
Geber was a relatively unknown besides those who knew him at Archbishop Spalding but came on in a big way over the summer, and it started off with his performance at the Northeast Prospect ID. Geber was up to 85 that day, but as the summer went on got up to 87 and made his pledge to Mount St. Mary's. Geber's emergence this summer should play a key role if Spalding wishes to win their fourth MIAA title in a row. 

Luke Rettig LHP Wilmington Christian 2018
Event: PBR Future Games
Rettig took full advantage of the PBR Future Games to make a bigger name for himself. Long and lanky, Rettig showed the ability to throw three pitches for strikes and showed a competitive drive on the mound as well. He was up to 85 during the Games from the left side and was another arm tat as plenty of projection left.  

Joe Seidler RHP Chesapeake 2018
Event: PBR Future Games 
Seidler is another from a talented Future Games roster that represented the Mid-Atlantic. He was up to 85 at the Future Games pitching from the stretch only with a lanky frame, quick arm action with a lower arm slot that got lots of run and sink on his ball. Might have the best combination of velo with action on fastball in state. Combine that with his deceptive slot and it makes for an interesting arm.  

Joey Silan RHP Caravel Academy 2018
Event: PBR Future Games
Silan rounded out the talented pitching group at the Future Games, pitching 85-87 with a slider that shows potential to be a swing and miss pitch. Consistency is the key for this young arm in each outing and when that happens, he will continue to climb.    

Colin Taeschner RHP St. Mary's 2018
Event: Fall Underclass Invitational
Taeschner continued to climb in velocity this fall and that culminated with is performance at the Fall Underclass Invitational. He touched 88 during the event and sat in the 85-87 range during his session. This late riser will be a great pickup for any program.
